Gonna have to sideline this build for the weekend, but here's a quick update. The patch has been made (it's ugly), the aft fuselage completed, and the vertical stabilizer added.

I'm getting a little itchy to get back to Phoenix. 😬

It is anyway a good save! No kit left behind.

The directions next call for the skinning of the central wing section, but I decided to slightly deviate from the suggested sequence. By assembling the entire wing skeleton first, I hope to produce some better seams between the center skins and outer wing skins.

So, I started skinning the center section.

Of course, in my haste I forgot that I hadn't yet installed all of the gear bay parts, but hey -- who doesn't like a little more challenge, right? 😑

I got the missing gear bay pieces in. It was exactly as much fun as I thought it would be, i.e., none. 😑

I also got the wing skins cut out, edge colored, and shaped. Here they are for a preliminary fit.

They will need landing lights installed before being glued on. Strangely, the diagrams also show inner sheaths labeled as part S -- the main spar is even recessed to accommodate the extra layer of paper. But there are no parts S in either the kit or mentioned in the instructions. I will probably go ahead and add something like them anyway to increase the gluing area.

Okay, wheels weren't actually next!  The instructions called for mating the wing and fuselage, followed by adding the wing fillets. Here's the left side done, with the parts for the right side for comparison.

Small update . . . I finally had some time (and mojo) to work on the landing gear. Here's the parts for the main struts, their wire innards, and the resin wheels (with some preliminary painting done).

image.jpeg.01f78e4db07c084a82528d65808d2c0f.jpeg

And here's the main struts rolled and the inboard sides of the wheels done. There are some residual pock-marks on the wheels, which I do not intend to fuss about, as they are not ginormous. Well, maybe I'll fix them -- one never knows. I've applied a couple of washes to the hubs to try and grunge them up a bit -- they effect is more noticeable in real life.

Still lots more to do.

Not much time for modeling the last couple of days, but I did take a moment to dry fit the gear struts to make sure they fit properly and are the correct length. Everything looks pretty square from this angle.

Here's a question for all of you true Hurricane know-it-alls out there. On the underside of the port wing fillet is a very small, oval structure, as seen in the image below:

image.png.76a290a46597fa3966ad6a2315410604.png

The kit provides parts for it, but I have no idea what it is. Possibly a step rung? Photos differ on its shape, and some aircraft appear not to have the thing at all. Whatever it is, it appears to be overlooked on many models.

Anyone able to shed some light?

I’m fairly certain that’s a retractable step. You can see it here in the deployed position.

You gots a PN brother...

According to my references yes, it is the retracted version of the access step, the reason it is not covered by most model kits is it is flush and practically invisible in it's in flight retracted position...

Also when on the ground, it is usually in its deployed position as seen on the USAFM's Hurricane, (thanks Andy) although you will see pics of it released but not fully extended... Looks like a little oval bump... with two edges/ridges across the top lengthwise...

Hi Chris,

it is a rectractable step that was unblocked by operating the lid of the hand handle. Closing the lid, the step would retract by the action of springs. So, step down with hand lid open and vice versa.
