Hope everyone had a nice Christmas and got everything they didn't want! :P :P ... just kidding....

UPDATE TIME......

Sine last, I've been working mostly on the deck pieces and the bulwark stanchions and trying to get a color I like for the deck planking. After trying a few different shades I settled on one that will be shown in one of the following pictures. I also started to weather the bulwarks a little. Slowly but surely it's starting to come together'

Thanks for look'n in.

Your techniques just keep getting better and better, Frank.  As for realism, when I had my fist look at your sample planks it took me right back over 55 years to a fishing boat I used to frequent back in the 50's.  I can almost smell the chum bucket.

Hi Lawrence....... glad you like the  deck color,  haven't laid the deck yet, so we'll have to wait and see how that develops :P .

Don't be afraid to try it, it's a real simple process.

Dave........... thanks for looking in, I've really been surprised as to how many people like this. :D

Denis........ too funny on the deck help!! :D....... unfortunately , the only helper I have is me, and To be honest with you, I'm not much help.

                   thanks for the good words!!

Hi Augie ........ someone had posted a picture here sometime ago of a ship they had visited, and they showed some really good pictures of the deck, the color was perfect, so that's what I tried to capture . Hopefully the whole deck will come out like the sample  I did.

Thanks for your nice comment.

One of the things I learned from others is that weathering should be subtle and a little goes a long way.

Time again for another update!!!........  first,  let me go back and see where I left off ... ....O.K. I'm set,.... just didn't want to repeat myself.

Before I start I want to thank Pavel, Tony and Scoot for stopping by and ck'n out  my progress, always nice to have you guys stop by Thanks again.

Well since my last post I've made the rear supports. rail cap, wales and finished the planking and finishing of the deck.A little goof on the deck planking but I wont point it out, I'll see if some one can spot it :P . I was real pleased with the deck coloring when it was first applied ,but after I applied  a clear coat it seemed to change slightly, I don't know ,maybe it's just me, but anyhow it's staying. The following pictures will give you some idea whats going on :D . Like always...... thanks for looking in and all comments are welcomed!!! Good or Bad  :P

This is the final color of the deck planking ... some times the camera sees color a little differently than what  the naked eye sees..... but it's pretty close. Thanks again for looking in.

Hi Frank

Just love that deck my friend, it is spot on.

When I do staining wood ( test strip ) and it is dry I put a drop of water on this will give you some idea what the stain will look like when you apply the varnish.

Varnish will always make the stain a little darker.

Hi Frank,

I spent some checking out your decking mate and I'm buggered if I can see a goof, it looks pretty damn good to my eye.

Rail cap and your wale look great and the wale scarf joint went together really well, I've yet to do a joint like that but I have one coming soon, that's gonna be fun.

Regarding your last email to me, I've decided I'm moving to your neck of the woods mate, can't let you have all that on your own, not good for your heart mate.

Hi Dennis....... thanks for your nice comments.... that's a real good tip about the water,. I didn't use stain on the deck , I used Age It Easy.I really didn't think the clear would darken it some, but it did. :P but that's O.K., I'll have to remember your tip next time. I didn't know that a clear coat darkens the color. I learn something new everyday . Thanks.

Hi David B........   Thank you too  for your nice comment..... you know you sample these colors on a small scale and they seem to look like what you're looking for , but when you apply the same color to a larger surface it 's not always the same effect. But all in all I'm satisfied the way it turned out. Thanks again for your input , always welcomed.
