What an enormous amount of details!

I've started a Yamato by Deagostini and will be looking at your model a lot. It's so inspiring.

Quite a bit of detail even in the funnels - this should make into one very nice model Greg.

It's pretty much follow the dots so far, the handrails are a punish and I'm still considering how much additional detail I need to add. As it sits at an angle, handling is very painful so it has to be top to bottom and trying to seat it in blue tack. This is the last main bit that seats on the centre island where it will really get very crowded. You've probably noticed I've done none of the control turrets or smaller guns which will be done last after the superstructure as it will be mass production.

The more you do PE the better the muscle memory as a fine motor skill, and it becomes a VERY fine motor skill at this scale. Like a tall ship, when you move on from planking it's a whole new skill set, which ends with rigging.

Couldn't imagine making and adding the turrets and small guns in advance would be useful, considering their location. They probably would make it harder to work with/on the other elements for the superstructure

At least I know now I'll be getting PE muscle tone hardly visible, but I can brag about it ;)

The funnel is now pretty much complete. There is a gantry to go but I won't put it on till later as well as a ships whistle.

The 150cm spotlight platform is next. The reference has support struts along the entire sides but the metal platform below is too wide so I'll leave good enough alone. The crew quarters whilst a nice addition will not sit flush so I used rivet strips to cover them which will be OK when painted. 8 extra sets of doors were added as well as a couple of hatches and pipes.

Finally how she sits on the superstructure which will be next. post-253-0-77214100-1481082356_thumb.jpg

How are you getting on getting PE to stick to resin parts without using super glue?

This is plastic, but I've never had a problem with PE and resin. If anything it works better.

I've started on my 20mm gun tubs that are pontos resin jobbies, got the PE ammo box's aswel but tried fixing them in place using undiluted PVA glue, and although they fix they leave a skin either side of the PE part and if its scraped away the PE part comes away, just like the PVA is not bitting into the resin and making a good bond.

It's because PVA is for wood, CA works better

Interesting - I'm sure I have seen many times mentioned on forums for plastic modeling, that PVA is good to attach PE railings aswel as CA.

Making a start on the main superstructure, there are a lot of individual stanchions to place, and ladders in the first instance.

post-253-0-13839500-1481585312_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-99812400-1481585318_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-16722800-1481585323_thumb.jpg

then moving on to the triple 25mm gun tubs, each one has 12 support struts to me placed and each is 1mm. I set up my usual production line placing each one in bluetack and using a pin to drop glue in.

The lots of foot and handrails and plonked them on. The little radio shack has little vents as per the reference material so it has been bashed a little using tiny funnels. post-253-0-95963000-1481585331_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-83173400-1481585333_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-65287600-1481585336_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-28877000-1481585339_thumb.jpg

Next are the gun controllers supports which will also require handrails.

Oh, the little steps? After much thought I left most of them on as I an pretty much crap at aligning the after market ones so they look worse than what I could achieve with a few washes later. Given the overall amount of detail I think a bad job on them would just draw the eye to poor workmanship. I will post some more later when my 11 year old lets me use my computer.

The last of the support structures for the main superstructure are the 4 bases of the type 94 director and the navigation lights, including handrails, MG controller, the crew ready room. This is pretty much it and the convoluted mast will be next. post-253-0-33203800-1481687750_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-23226600-1481687755_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-93349800-1481687757_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-44717000-1481687760_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-11540100-1481687769_thumb.jpg

Dryfitting the assembly you can see how many vacant spots there are and how much piece work is to go.post-253-0-01514000-1481687774_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-79420800-1481687777_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-70412700-1481687781_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-98263400-1481687785_thumb.jpgpost-253-0-28766200-1481687790_thumb.jpg

The most recent Super illistration published in Japan last month pretty much sorts it. Not so much a rigging plan but join the dots. Whilst it will be too late for me I have ordered the new AOTS as well. Maybe that will be better and I don't think I'll be up to rigging by March 2017.

Marvelous job on the superstructure, Greg. It is coming along nicely. I recently got a magazine/book which has some pretty clear views on the rigging. I'll send you a PM when I'm home and have had time to look it up

Crikey Greg, that is something else - great work.  All those long hours with fiddly repetitive work are showing their fine results.
