I'm out in the hallway peeking thru the door often and enjoying this build... and I am intrigued by the photo etch parts and the skills needed to work with such tiny pieces!!!  ....what puzzles me is how does one access all the nooks and crannies when it comes time  to paint the vessel ?

Hi Greg,

Really enjoying following your build particularly the photo-etch. I am hanging out to see what new PE assembly is coming next.

Bit jealous with all the PE you get to do for these 1/350 scale ships as I would really enjoy doing this amount.  I have a couple 1/200 scale plastic builds (with Pontos or MK1 upgrades) I have in mind to get in to the full-on Photo Etch work although will be a good while down the track at the rate I build at!

Cheers

Slog

PS forgot to say the work to date is impressive indeed and very inspiring!

Thanks folks, Slog, as tempting as some of the 1/200 stuff is as thery are very detailed, it's what they leave out. I've got a great collection of spares now at this scale and to go up a grade would mean I'm starting from scratch so to speak. Pontos does not seem able to do doors (hatches)!

That being said Eduard which is pretty ordinary does great individual stanchions with actual chain for their handrails in 1/350 which in reality is 1/200 so worth getting as few ships have metal rails.

It's good to see I'm tapping into the dark interests of the wooden ship builders. Whilst I would like to build the Bluejacket Atlantic the amount of corrections needed to their one piece hull may be better suited to POB.

I'm now working on the side assemblies for the added anti air guns, then there will be a massive amount of tiny guns to build, plus the cranes.

My God, not in this lifetime, I have the AOTS for a UBoat, to to it properly you would need to be a marine engineer. At this scale you could build a working model! Back in the 80's my father bought me a B-17 in this scale that was transparent and it was huge, and way too hard for me, and I'd find this way too hard 40 years later.

So, I did up the gun tubs for the 12-7cm AA guns, added footrails and splinter bags, which will be a nightmare when I add the support struts for these as they cover the bases. All dryfitted, lots of details to go but this is a fairly significant milestone.

Happy Christmas all.

Looking good Greg, all the photo etch appears to be a considerable amount of work.  Don't know how you keep track of it all.

Cheers

Slog

Those are some nice fiddly bits you have been working at, Greg. I wouldn't know if the aerials on the Dreadnought have been more fiddly tha these turrets and guns ... They look crisp though.

Merry Christmas to you and your family

Cheers

I thought something completely different: these ships must have been quite daunting for new crewmembers: how much drills did you need to find your way in this maze of turrets, gangways, decks and guns.
And not only in broad daylight in harbour, but also at see, in darkness, in the heat of battle.
Glad I wasn't there (nor on any other battleship in action)

That is one very nicely detailed superstructure block; especially noting the scale.

A very merry Christmas to you and family; I hope 2017 is a great year for you.
