I think that using cyanoacrylate glue is for the planking is just fine especially since you'll be painting the hull which will cover up any stains. You have to be much more methodic and careful when you use it for planking a hull that will be not be painted. I like to use medium viscosity for planking by applying just a small dot of glue to a few bulkhead at a time while laying down a plank starting from the bow and working carefully towards the stern. I shape the plank until it lays down quite naturally along the bulkheads and fits tight against the previous plank before beginning to glue it down. Be sure to have some cyanoacrylate Uncure on hand to unstick your fingers!

Really nice start on the planking, Ed. I like how you used colored tape on each bulkhead when laying out the tick marks.

I'm doing fine but, unfortunately, my shipyard is still closed. Most of my time this spring and summer has been spent playing my guitar, cycling, gardening and a host of other things household and family things. Currently, my wife and I are planning a 5-6 week road trip to Oregon, Washington and Vancouver Island in late September to late October. We're avid hikers so our trip will be focused primarily on visiting wilderness areas like Mt Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, Mt Rainier, the Olympic Peninsula, southern Vancouver Island and the Oregon coast. Climate change is wreaking havoc on all of the beautiful wilderness areas out west so we feel an urgency to visit them before they're forever changed. We aren't getting any younger also. I'll be 76 next month and my wife just turned 74. We are fortunate to be in good health and still able to go on fairly challenging hikes together but we know the clock is ticking so we need to do things like this while we still can. Thanks for checking in, Tim, (it is Tim isn't it?) 🤔

This is one of the most interesting build logs I've ever read, Ron. I can't wait to watch you make the diorama. I say go for the dramatic and put her in stormy seas!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
