Nice planking job, you’ll get the counter looking right. Just a little filler and sanding. A lot of it may be covered by copper tape.

slug tape
Jim Rogers replied to harlequin's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
Added bonus it keeps the slugs off your hull.😂🤣😂 Copper tape is copper tape tape so it should work fine. -
I agree with Harley. My long boat still is not mounted because of all the rigging in the way. I’ll get it done but I am working out a plan. Suggest you tie it down now as it does not really interfere.

Ian the make a product called Uncure for removing CA attached parts. It works well. Just put on a few drops and let it set for about 30 seconds and the part should pull right out. Your Build is coming along greatly.

Your cannons look excellent. I learned that same lesson about glueing in the eyelets first. Now I build a jig and use hooks. Much, much easier.

They will all be 3d printed by robot voice command. They will be amazed at our skill and try to figure out how we did all that without a computer or 3D printer.

Building Acrylic cases technique video
Jim Rogers replied to Jim Rogers's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
The other issue with a router bit is the way it ejects the chips. Ever had a dado cut with a router bit pack the chips in front of the bit? Not bad with wood because you can just use a chisel to clean it out. The 45 cone bit will do the same thing but with plastic chips it just melts in place. -
Building Acrylic cases technique video
Jim Rogers replied to Jim Rogers's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
No. A router bit moves two fast and just melts the acrylic. We tried and it was a mess. -

My good friend Joe and I build wooden cases together all the time. I have great shop myself BUT I have a Shopsmith and while great for some things Acrylic cases is not one so we use his shop. 53C85E3A-7056-41E3-A0A4-F33DBD6D6F1B.MOV The technique we use is just about bullet proof. You need a sharp Dado blade and the capability to measure exactly 45 degrees. We were using a piece of scrap for the video so the protective film has been removed, we usually leave it on the outside. You can also use this process on plywood. As a side note there is a German company that sells a blade designed to do this exact cut on acrylic. Cost $650. Dado blade much cheaper.

Love it! Great job and a great name. I am basically going the same route as you. I am having real issues following the masts and yard assembly and just find it woefully lacking is many areas. I flew through the hull construction but the itty bitty translation sheet to English is just too much for these old eyes. So because she is a Brigatine I broke out my Syren rigging plan.

I am currently building this model also. IMO it would be great for a beginner as it does make for a beautiful model BUT you must understand: You will learn zero skills from this kit as far as wooden ship building goes. All the skill learning stuff is laser cut and formed for you. It is really more like building a plastic model using wood. It is a great little kit

Byrnes Table Saw
Jim Rogers replied to WSparrowHood's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
You have made a great choice in saws. I got the Micro Mark and I am very disappointed with it. The fence is terrible. Will be getting the Byrnes for Christmas.....the Admiral just doesn’t know it yet. -
15' Dinghy by Bedford - FINISHED - 1:1 scale
Jim Rogers replied to Bedford's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Great work. A real beauty. -
Master Korabel kits use all veneer wood, while it make things easy as far as attaching ceilings and hull planking it splits just looking at it, will rip out very easy with a drill. It looks great just be very careful when attaching parts to it that require drilling or cutting. Others may have had different experiences. This is mine.

Check out Master Korabel Small boat kits. I built one and it was great.

Al that is exactly what I was thinking. What a huge improvement that would be on the boats supplied. I really like MK’s small boat kits.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
