  1. Don't sell yourself short o the ice yacht Jack. It is hard enough to do I think 'll keep my distance from this versatile bunch of builders and sailors. I'll throw popcorn from the rafters when they distract you!
  2. Awesome, Jason. Especially the last picture ... so life like Love the details on the carriages, and the capstan. Metal parts really stand out Cheers
  3. Can you ... Party??? I wonder, was at that time tongue and groove used for such floors? Lovely job, by the way.
  4. Very nicely done Jim. especially like the black colour. What is a brass road ........
  5. get a thin quick drying, and a thicker slightly sower drying CA. Gorilla, Zap CA, BSI insta-cure/maxi-cure. For the kit's parts I use a glue for plastic. Personally I prefer a brush as applicator for the latter, and use a metal rod for the CA
  6. Interesting ... as RGL, Canute, and I are going to build the SMS Seydlitz as a kind of group build, it's older but smaller sister. If you want to add detail to her, I would certainly try the PE. It also gives you a lot more building time. These ships do not have the numerous AA gun's which are hard to build when starting with PE ,so it should be a good starting point for your first encounter with it. I'll be following along with your endeavours to recreate her
  7. not much "at work" it's a rather contrasting view mate ... tidy on the one side ... a bit messy on the other ... the latter looks more like a spot in use ... although the part about the genius ...
  8. marvelous job Jack. ... in time for the coming yachting season ... she looks superb
  9. Nice mate, a lot of litt'l uns 'll do me fine Acetate ... you could use perspex if you do not like the former ... just a thought ... Cheers
  10. I use both, however, for primer I prefer Tamiya rattlecan as it sticks better to brass and plastic. Colours depend, although I mostly grab Vallejo, as their assortment is deep. For Tamiya I use lacquer thinner, as it isn't real water based acrylics, at least I get the best airbrush result with that thinner.
  11. highlight would be a light colour, so with the dark you are shading. yes, that's the way highlighting & shading work. it is, however, mostly done on the painted surface, after a gloss varnish has been applied. when finished, a matt varnish is usually applied to "secure" the shading
  12. kruipalen are to turn the head with he vanes. the rope is attached to them so by spinning the wheel you turn it penanten either concrete or brick and mortar foundation
  13. When work permits ... although it looks not half as demanding as your hinges .. cheers mate
  14. violin builder planes. I've been eyeing them, but they are expensive, since I'm temporarily into plastic builds, it stays at eyeing for now ... That is some serious fiddly work on the hinges, Mick. Doesn't look like brass much ... is it?
