Don't sell yourself short o the ice yacht Jack. It is hard enough to do I think 'll keep my distance from this versatile bunch of builders and sailors. I'll throw popcorn from the rafters when they distract you!

get a thin quick drying, and a thicker slightly sower drying CA. Gorilla, Zap CA, BSI insta-cure/maxi-cure. For the kit's parts I use a glue for plastic. Personally I prefer a brush as applicator for the latter, and use a metal rod for the CA

Interesting ... as RGL, Canute, and I are going to build the SMS Seydlitz as a kind of group build, it's older but smaller sister. If you want to add detail to her, I would certainly try the PE. It also gives you a lot more building time. These ships do not have the numerous AA gun's which are hard to build when starting with PE ,so it should be a good starting point for your first encounter with it. I'll be following along with your endeavours to recreate her

not much "at work" it's a rather contrasting view mate ... tidy on the one side ... a bit messy on the other ... the latter looks more like a spot in use ... although the part about the genius ...

I use both, however, for primer I prefer Tamiya rattlecan as it sticks better to brass and plastic. Colours depend, although I mostly grab Vallejo, as their assortment is deep. For Tamiya I use lacquer thinner, as it isn't real water based acrylics, at least I get the best airbrush result with that thinner.

Stunning mate, contrast of the colours really make her shine -
highlight would be a light colour, so with the dark you are shading. yes, that's the way highlighting & shading work. it is, however, mostly done on the painted surface, after a gloss varnish has been applied. when finished, a matt varnish is usually applied to "secure" the shading

violin builder planes. I've been eyeing them, but they are expensive, since I'm temporarily into plastic builds, it stays at eyeing for now ... That is some serious fiddly work on the hinges, Mick. Doesn't look like brass much ... is it?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
