    Dust and nicks? Looks like she just rolled out of the showroom to me! VERY nice. The belaying pins are really Cap'ns choice. You're starting with brass and you could use them 'as is' which looks nice but is not really accurate. Personally, I would only leave them brass on an all natural (unpainted) ship. You can blacken chemically or with paint. Actually, I've done both together --- blackening first then painting. That gives a very durable finish. Or you can go with a wood finish (paint).     I'm not even sure what you call it but the joinery looks terrific. This is downright exciting.

    How did this classic get by me?????? She's going to be a great project and serve a wonderful purpose. Glad to hear you have a proper propeller at the ready. The gauge bezels look terrific. I'm ABOARD!

    Looking forward to the final samples. Holly should give you a brite, clean look with plenty of contrast. But that maple may surprise you

    I won't cloud your decision with another opinion. However I will ask --- have you applied any finish whatsoever to the samples in the photos? I wouldn't make the final decision until I see what the totally finished product will look like.

    Great to hear you're feeling well enough to get back to it. Yup.....there's not much more frightening than breaking out the old 1/2" drill on a 5/32" scale ship model. Don't sweat the ratlines. Master the knot and don't let the rats pull in the shrouds. Take your time. Just a bit of swag is a good thing.

    Nicely done, Ron. There's no time limit on any of this.

    Patience on picking your next subject. That being said, there is nothing more pleasing to the eye than the clipper.....the pinnacle of the age of sail. True, I love men of war, but clippers are special. I've had good luck with MS kits. Just keep in mind the Flying Fish is a fairly small scale 1:96 I believe.
