  1. She is looking spectacular. That stern and quarter galleries really make her something special. Love that last photo ----- IMPRESSIVE ! Here's wishing you and Anja a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from up here in snow country. Now take a day off and then let's see some 'teeth' in this lady.
  2. Just came across your log, Ken and wanted to wish you luck on your first wooden ship build. Just one comment. I've worked quite a bit with basswood from MS. I always use a pre-stain on it if it is to be stained. It cuts down on blotchiness that you can run into without it. Also, Golden Oak, as is, is pretty dark. You might wish to consider cutting it down to 30-50% with a natural stain before applying. As with any finish, it's best to make a sample of what you want to do before committing to the entire model or section.
  3. Same best wishes to you and yours, Ken. Say, if I may, could I ask the width of the model as she stands now with the yards in place? I'm trying to determine case size if I decide to build her. Thanks in advance.
  4. OK, I've used Mylar as well. It's sold in (some) hobby stores as Pactra Striping tape. Comes on a roll of paper backing about 3 feet long with many different widths on the roll. Comes in black, white, red blue and yellow. Self adhesive. I use it on the airplanes. But it can sometimes not like to stick to finished surfaces. Glad you found an answer.
  5. Somehow I missed this post. WOW --- I've always wanted to follow a build on this lady. Be looking forward to it when the time comes.
  6. You might consider heat shrink tubing. They sell an assortment of diameters in a flat black finish. Works very well on slightly tapered shapes as well.
  7. She's something to take pride in right now. Planking should be spectacular. Can't wait to see which wood you choose. Impressive, mate.
  8. Can't go wrong with those prices/shipping. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
  9. She's growing on all of us. You've made a LOT of progress. I'm liking it all. But that carronade is really intriguing! Have a great Holiday. I can almost smell the aroma of that mince pie from here !
  10. If you go to 'My Profile' you'll see a box called 'Edit my Profile'. Click that and the member title box is right above your birthday.
  11. It's really sad to hear that Sam is ill. I know he's been quiet for many months now and I've been concerned.
  12. I opted for Ship's Cat. No responsibilities, the run of the ship and the best food on board !
  13. The mounting of the guns on the gun deck, with breech lines and train tackle rings, has been completed. Time for a short holiday break and then we'll have some fun ---- deck furniture !! Here's wishing everyone the best of the holiday season as well as the upcoming change of season!
