Very nice. I have no concept how to make one out of plastic. Most interesting. I've seen some blueprints of real capstans and have been amazed at how they were constructed. Our forefathers were pretty darned good, mechanically !!!!!!

OK, here's one last thought. Balsa USA http://shop.balsausa.com/category_s/67.htm They have plywood in the size range you're looking for. It's pretty good quality but it's all birch plywood. I've used it on a lot of airplane formers.

Boxwood? I didn't say anything about boxwood :D I couldn't agree more on matching up ends...especially on the darned basswood I'm using on the hull. EVERY plank needs to be dressed, then measured. You don't need a caliper......you can easily SEE the difference. Sometimes I get lazy --- and it shows. But I am getting a bit more patient. Haven't decided yet on the lower hull finish.....I have to see how it looks. Next time boxwood on the hull. But the decks will be real wood. Your deck reminds me of the basketball floor at the old Madison Square Garden. Beautiful!

I'm going to join in with Mobbsie and cast a vote for option 1. It's clean and I just have a fancy for stuff 'out there'. I will be standing by awaiting receipt of an award certificate for just finding the yard tackle pendant in photo 1.

Sounds like a plan! Nothing like getting right back on the horse. Save me a seat for when the voyage begins,

Framing corners are a 'Modified Trussben' design. Get some close-ups down the road. Right now doing hand to hand combat with the garboards. They're in! Should finish 2nd belt this week .... more snow heading in.

I concur that the Viking Funeral is more appropriate then dumping her in the recycle bin with the beer cans. It's the ending I reserve for my old R/C planes. But I advise doing it in the garden and letting her return to the earth rather than go up in smoke. Also works wonders for the year's tomato crop.

Nice work on the hatches/coamings/ladders and racks. Don't worry about all the work below the main deck --- we know it's there. Looking forward to the cabin interior.

I am beginning to believe that the waning of the Full Moon is affecting MSW. Between Sherry, Mark and yourself the news coming across the wire has not been uplifting. I am giving serious consideration to refraining from entering the shop today! That said, she's looking very nice from here!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
