  1. I think the contrast looks interesting. Sorry on the black ---- a lot of us run into that problem. Having that flat lacquer around can save a lot of aggravation. She's looking great.
  2. Tanganika.......looks good. I use the 'drill and fill' method for treenails as well. WELL DONE, all around.
  3. VERY nice.....and that sure is a lot of planks. What type of wood is that, Sjors???
  4. Very nice. I have no concept how to make one out of plastic. Most interesting. I've seen some blueprints of real capstans and have been amazed at how they were constructed. Our forefathers were pretty darned good, mechanically !!!!!!
  5. OK, here's one last thought. Balsa USA http://shop.balsausa.com/category_s/67.htm They have plywood in the size range you're looking for. It's pretty good quality but it's all birch plywood. I've used it on a lot of airplane formers.
  6. We have a local Rockler's here, Mark. They carry pretty high end stuff, Don't know if you have one nearby by here's their site (with plywood) http://www.rockler.com/wood/plywood
  7. Boxwood? I didn't say anything about boxwood :D I couldn't agree more on matching up ends...especially on the darned basswood I'm using on the hull. EVERY plank needs to be dressed, then measured. You don't need a caliper......you can easily SEE the difference. Sometimes I get lazy --- and it shows. But I am getting a bit more patient. Haven't decided yet on the lower hull finish.....I have to see how it looks. Next time boxwood on the hull. But the decks will be real wood. Your deck reminds me of the basketball floor at the old Madison Square Garden. Beautiful!
  8. OK, I've indulged. SWEET!! I can almost hear Ahab's ivory leg clomping along the deck ....... oh wait ---- wrong ship !!!! Just so happens I have a pile of Jeff's wood set aside for my decks
  9. You're referring to those 5X5 planks? Yes, that's how I'd read it. If you take a look at Rustyj's log on Granado, around page 9, you'll see some structure like that.
  10. Around here it's the other way around. My wife being into fabric and fiber arts means that she drags ME there and while she's buying $30 worth of material I get a $2 piece of spruce
  11. Gear well stowed and feeling better ....... productive days! Love the rigging chest.
  12. I'm going to join in with Mobbsie and cast a vote for option 1. It's clean and I just have a fancy for stuff 'out there'. I will be standing by awaiting receipt of an award certificate for just finding the yard tackle pendant in photo 1.
  13. Sounds like a plan! Nothing like getting right back on the horse. Save me a seat for when the voyage begins,
  14. Framing corners are a 'Modified Trussben' design. Get some close-ups down the road. Right now doing hand to hand combat with the garboards. They're in! Should finish 2nd belt this week .... more snow heading in.
  15. Right back on course !!!! She's looking terrific. WELL DONE ! Oh, keep practicing those leaf and vine thingies. I may need some on my next build
  16. I concur that the Viking Funeral is more appropriate then dumping her in the recycle bin with the beer cans. It's the ending I reserve for my old R/C planes. But I advise doing it in the garden and letting her return to the earth rather than go up in smoke. Also works wonders for the year's tomato crop.
  17. Nice work on the hatches/coamings/ladders and racks. Don't worry about all the work below the main deck --- we know it's there. Looking forward to the cabin interior.
  18. I am beginning to believe that the waning of the Full Moon is affecting MSW. Between Sherry, Mark and yourself the news coming across the wire has not been uplifting. I am giving serious consideration to refraining from entering the shop today! That said, she's looking very nice from here!
  19. The red will be fine. Sorry about the delay in getting the boxwood but the investment will surely pay off. We'll be here when you return!
