I have a minor update to this project.......I've been busy putting the finish on a couple of non related projects. after disastrous affair with the decals, I worked up the courage to try and finish the deck. I still need to repair the center line......but the caution stripe around the elevator needs to be in place to do it. as I figured, the decal broke into five segments......unfortunately, I was only able to utilize four of them {shoulda used the decal bonder}. live and learn. I might have a way out though......I might be able to fix this using HO train decals.....but only if they don't come out glossy. I'll see how it goes

I hope your waiting a day or so, before you sand the marks away. early sanding can cause the paint to 'bunch up'. looks to be a fairly easy problem to fix

you may need a stealer at the stern, but you will need to taper at the bow. then you can raise the plank and have room for the rest of the bow planking. you'll likely end up tapering them all. starting from the bulwarks, you can do full planks until you get to the wales......but then it starts to get dicey......that's when the 'turn' begins. at that point, all the tapering will occur at the top of the plank. from the keel {the way your doing it now}, the tapering will need to be done on the bottom edge of the planking. lay your planking and you'll see just how much you'll need to trim them. if you plan it right, you won't have to use anything at the bow......stealers or jogging. hope this helps you.

the deck and bulwarks look super Per. regarding the stern......if this was a Billing's kit, there is a mistake on the old and newer production of the model. the keel spine on the older kit is 300 mm, while the newer production measures it at 310 mm. it's misleading that they show rounded transom as well...especially up at the stern bulwarks. so, when the cap rail is added, it won't fit correctly. the keel problem really doesn't add to the transom woes, but creates a nasty gap at the deck division. the transom problem does though.....had the same problem with the AmericA. you did very well to alleviate that.....something I will have to take care of when I start my Bluenose project. really like that way you did it

really nice Michael I was looking at the gammoning as I came in here.......couldn't how symmetrical the windings looked. bound in much the same way, the assembly takes on a realistic appearance. your ropes and their termination have a nice quality to them wonderful...really shows the time your putting into them.

tuning in from my work week Scott....you've made some really nice progress! the super structure looks really nice with the railings.....very good paint work as well. I've got three of the life color sets......haven't tried to use them yet. I use enamels for all of my models, although I have a few acrylic colors kick'in around. the Testor thinner that I use comes with a secondary cap....a sort of plug to prevent leakage. I use it though to measure out the amount of thinner to prep the paint. since the EZ airbrush I use, uses the 1/4 oz bottles as the siphon pot, I just mix up the whole bottle......I get empty bottles by buying the 1/4 oz thinners. I use Model Master as well, for the flats, but they come in 1/2 oz bottles, so it's good to have the extra bottles. look online for conversion charts.....they can also give reference to the difference brands and what to use. for the particular model though.....I guess you'd have to see if anyone published that information. it is out there though........your doing a really nice job!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
