thanks for the added explanation, but what I was asking was, is color coding used on actual vessels? that would be a great idea if it were a training vessel, there would be a better understanding of the lines and what they do. I've also never really seen this in modeling, so it makes it kind of unique.......the model could be used as a training tool as well {as well being a colorful finished model}. I noticed that the sequence of lines on the port side is not the same as on the starboard side...is there some significance in that? yes......this model was probably one of Billing's first offerings, so it has been around for quite a long time. I've seen a couple built over the years, and I think they are quite beautiful. truth be told......when I came up with the concept for the M&M boat, the admiral wanted me to base it on the Dragen.....I wanted to base it on the Slo Mo Shun IV. she didn't want a race boat, and I had cloned a hull from the Mary Ann, so I used that one instead as for the added information and text detail......please do........I enjoy reading the thoughts you may have as you build your model......everyone's for that matter. I found the color coordination of lines very interesting, and wondered if this was something found on the actual vessel. listing all of the lines by name will make this log indispensable for anyone building this model in the future. your progress so far is fantastic........she's a beautiful vessel, as with your Victory

...and your almost finished! that's amazing! great idea with the davits.....but it must have been a little tough to line up the davits to the deck slots...wasn't it kinda flimsy? fantastic job Danny........your more than ready to tackle the Bismark

just when one thinks you've covered it all........you come up with more! great job Patrick.....

not sure that there is, since the paint doesn't get routed through the nozzle...although I think it does with the Aztek 320. I have this one......with extra bottles and at least two of each tips........probably $400.00 for the whole shoot'in match.........and it sits in my closet. here I am using a cheap $30.00 set up.........it does the job though, so I can't complain, I guess. remember to blink every once in a while.....OK!

you sure hit the ground runn'in! you've made quite a bit of progress with her I notice that the port side order of lines for the jib is not the same as the starboard side order of lines....does this matter? since they're color coded, perhaps not? super nice finish!

I have a gravity feed.....but I don't use it. I like the siphon feed better. I have one that has different size 'feed' bottles, but I'm still using the Testor EZ airbrush set up. it uses the bottle that the paint comes in {1/4 oz}, and I can do pretty much the entire job with it. your paint work looks great......glad to see your getting in some build time
-
I have some Testor's copper paint that I've had for quite a long time. my experience with metallic paints showed me how these paints take so long to fully cure. they tend to dull out with handling and finger prints are a problem. to solve this, I give the surface a coat of semi gloss or flat clear coat {lacquer seems the best} to skin it over and dry to a touchable finish. the smaller wheel looks better......somewhere on the site, there's a conversation about the visibility of this much detail in coppered hulls. most say that the rivets wouldn't be as visible, but most modelers add it in anyway. it's a lot like tree nailing.......lots of effort, but the finished deck or hull usually looks the better for it

look'in good J.........I've never coppered before, but you may find that you'll need to jog in another row for the mid ship.

amazing how they can get the helo in and out of there you've shown two possible ways to detail it out......either way, there's a lot to the interior. my son found me a 1:400 Heller kit of the Jeanne D'Arc. the kit comes with four Helicopters. have you found any helicopter kits that will fit the scale of your vessel? lots of ducting, the shelf/rack at the fore end and the rotor rack above. the model pictures look great.......but they forgot the no smoking sign you have your work cut out for you .....I'm sure you'll do a stunning job of it!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
