  1. In addition to turbines, jets, gunfire, let's add loud music, loud car exhaust. And then to top it off, there's the normal hearing loss from just getting older.
  2. Thanks Sam and Mike, Update time... The starboard side is "mostly" sanded and shaped. The stern needs a tad of work and the bow needs some finicky work. So, I'm going to turn her around and get the other side into this condition. Then I can finish the stern and bow to get a match. The bow has some unique shaping and I'd like to do them at the same time, My thinking is if I do one now, and later try to do the other side, I'll wonder what the heck I did.
  3. Lou, Doing the best we can is the best we can do. And really, we are our own worst critics.
  4. Looks similar to what I have. If you get one, and decide it needs "upgrades" <cough, cough> Go here for parts (https://www.lightobject.com/) as they have excellent after market products like tubes, lenses, power supplies, water chillers, etc. (Note: You will need a way to keep the beast's tube cool.)
  5. Here's the search I used... https://modelshipworld.com/search/?q=lighthouse&type=forums_topic&search_and_or=and&search_in=titles&sortby=relevancy Builds of lighthouses have been far and few between.
  6. Lou, Part of the problem is that you have "modeler's vision". We build, we inspect, we go "oh crap". To everyone else, even up close and in person, they see the goodness that has been done. Doesn't matter if it's wood, plastic models, we all have it.
  7. Oh yeah. We tried on the ground but he wasn't paying attention on how to load, unload, use the safety, etc. But then, he was just out of OCS and knew everything. Back around 72, the company I worked for was building the M901 ITV (M113 with a tow launcher on top). Part of the contract was "testing" of each vehicle so they built a test track out back. I was writing the manual for it, and had to "take her for a spin"... Great fun, knocking down trees and generally making a mess of the test track. After our tests, they'd ship it out to the proving grounds to fire the TOW's, etc. The classic test report of that project was "fired the machine gun for 5 minutes. Tested fine. Spent 4 hours putting out the fire at the range.". Tracers in the middle of summer... not a good idea.
  8. Seeing the details and workmanship so far, I can't wait to see the whole diorama, Greg.
  9. We didn't drink until we were on the ground. The beer was for the grunts and they appreciated it. Ah.. now I understand it. We weren't a "dust-off" but if we were dropping stuff off and they had wounded, we'd get them out. The first mech was our "medic"... he did a lot of good.
  10. The rats are thread, right? If they are, just brush on a coat of white glue and water (50/50) and shape in the droop. Looking good from here as it sits.
  11. Beautiful and precise work, Marc. Don't worry about posting. Life and work come first and this is just a hobby. No rush, no pressure.
  12. The gloss coat might work better then for cleaning up the remaining scratches.
  13. Looking good, Lou. BTW, I'm not a wizz. I just had fewer parts. I was wondering about those seats. It would have seemed to me to be in the way for a medivac. We just folded all the seats up for those missions for room and to give the miedic some space to work. Oh... and door gunners didn't get to sit down near the gun on a -53 you lucky....er... guy. We did have "service" (pilot's decision).... carried a case of beer or two and CO2 fire extinguisher to cool it down. Usually tossed them out to the guys in forward area on resupply. Medivac.... nothing for them to drink as they were probably headed into surgery PDQ.
  14. An old trick might help... use a bit tooth paste on your finger and try rubbing it out. Use the abrasive type of tooth pastes. I had to do that on my -53 and worked out fine. A little touch up after the rubbing out and all was fine.
  15. I dunno about that. We had Lt. type fly one mission as door gunner because "he wanted to see what it was like". On the way back to the base, told him to clear the gun.... he did.... all 250 rounds fired when all we wanted him to do was raise the cover, remove the belt and rack the handle. Facepalms all around on that flight. Luckily we were over the bay and the rounds went out towards the ocean. As I recall, Kilroy showed up in 'Nam off and on. Not like WWII but he was there.
  16. I didn't realize it was that small. But wow... looking great. I do really like like the photo below.
  17. Hi Gary, Welcome to MSW. Feel free to ask all the questions you want as we do have an RC area here: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/58-general-ship-model-kit-discussions/ You can also open a build log in the scratch area so that others can follow along and help out when needed.
  18. Is the block and tackle to suspend a whole hog for butchering?
