Sweet work, Matt. Historically, old damaged cannons were used for ballast so thumbs up for that also.

Bill, You might also have a look here.. http://www.littlemachineshop.com/default.php There's a lot of good information there. Edit.. forgot to add this one also: http://www.mini-lathe.com/mini_mill/Main/mini-mill.htm

Richard, I'm not sure what the P/N on mine is... but here's a link to a review I did: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/256-micromark-micromill-review/ It's not an upgrade as such but more of a backyard mechanic kludge. I took off both pulleys and re-machined them on the lathe such that they fit on the opposite shafts from original. I hope that makes sense. If I get some time, I'll pop off the pulley cover and take a picture.

Nice looking catheads, Ulises. (Those are used in getting the anchor back on board the ship.) Looks like you're getting into the fiddly things now.

Patrick, this is just more than amazing. That photo with all three decks spread out is beyond comprehension. Just so much detail to see. Congratulations on the chairs. Those are a wonderful touch.

Bill, Try it once you get it and test it. If you get acceptable results, then that's great. If you think a higher speed will help, than the speed upgrade is the ticket. I have the MM Mini which now discontinued and after reworking the pulleys I can see the difference in milling wood at 2500 rpm and 10,000+ rpm. When this thing dies, I would go with the Sherline and speed kit upgrade.

I have had to go back several times for the dolphins. They look carved and the detail is incredible.

Thanks for the offer. I did get the ANCRE English version of Belle Poule when it was released late last year. It's been a big help. -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
