  1. Lovely work on the panels, Augie. It's a pity to hide that deck so I'm glad you're only half planking.
  2. Things in the shipyard are shaping up.... that's good news. And it's wonderful that all your research is paying off. May 2015 be a great year for you and Terror.
  3. Looks like they've redone the site. You might try emailing them and see if they still offer it. Otherwise, I'm not sure where you'd find it. Row, did you get to the practicums? I hit a deadend where it says they're available but no links.
  4. Jan, You might try brushing the line with a 50/50 mix of white glue and water. It's always seemed to work for me on taming those springy lines. Looking super nice.
  5. I've done my share of programming and shareware. Never made a dime from it until I started work in IT. I do believe in paying. There's quite a few folks here that do things for us shipbuilders (such as the authors of various books and plans) and I want them paid and not have their work stolen. Around 85 I think. I hope not as they brought out more but as I recall it held the record for being pirated. Anyway, that's the way I am.
  6. Thanks Nigel. I'll go have a look then. I'm just very cautious about such things. Always have been and probably always will be. Hell, I even paid for the original Leisure Suit Larry game way back when it was pirated by everybody.
  7. Well, I did mean the Columbus fleet but Wow.. the whole fleet together. A feast for the eyes, Jan. Thanks for letting us see it.
  8. Now aren't you glad you're not doing an Allison V-12, Michael? That is some beyond wonderful metal work. And, doing the wrist pin end that way might have uses for other things... I'm filing it away.
  9. John, Have a look at Jeronimo's (Karl) Bonhomme Richard build. He's done the stern, mid-section, and now the bow separately. I don't know if he plans to put all three pieces together though.
  10. Richard, I'm assuming that everything you did matched the printed plans. So, did you check the scale on the plans with a ruler? I ran into where the print setting on the 'puter changed and some plans printed out to the wrong size. Luckily, I wasn't far into the build when I discovered it.
  11. I'm pulling up a chair also. As for the alleged typo, I thought you had it right. I've been out on lakes in the summer and that crowd definitely uses some colorful language. Especially as the day wears on the waterski boats move closer.
  12. Hi FNG, I would suggest a build log as that's a good way to get help. Have you checked out the other logs? On the wood... generally those are mm. So 0,5X4 is 0.5mm X 4mm. They use the European style of decimals not the American. The comma is the decimal point. Here's two good links to sources online for translating: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/7325-nautical-terms-italian-to-english/?hl=Italian http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/5809-italian-dictionary-moved-by-moderator/?hl=italian
  13. Well done on the teeth, Sjors. Will the rigging spiders be able to help or is this just a Sjors' task?
  14. I believe MicroMark offers similar grab bags but, as I recall, not at that price.
  15. Having bashed the AL Constellation into a full gundeck, I have a deep appreciation for what you're going through I suspect that you'll be ready to join us on the "darkside" after this. :D
  16. That was a great tutorial, Michael. I've printed it out and will paste it next to the mill and drill press.
  17. The drum looks great, Popeye. Everything else looks great also. I've always loved the detailing you do on the pilot houses and this one looks like it will be wonderful as well.
  18. Charles, Check here: http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?page=search&PR=-1&TB=A&SS=lantern It looks like they might have what you need. There's a bunch of pages of nothing but lanterns. I know I saw some from Mantua that looked similar to what you want.
  19. Hi Mickey, Lovely work and lovely wood. By the way, maybe it's the camera angle but I'm not seeing the rabbet on the other side of the keel.
