Wow John! That's a very impressive display. I love the extra details with the whale and whale boat, as well as the background and display board itself. Well done my friend!

Bloody hell John, how on earth do you expect to follow that, the whole diarama / display is truly wonderful.

You showed great vision and skill to achieve such a great build, well done my friend.

Wow, thanks to all that commented. It's been quite a ride, and I have to admit, I loved every second of it. Thanks to all that have contributed and supported this project. Kind of a bitter sweet end.....

George, many thanks to all the comments and support.

Grant, thanks for all the input and accolades, and for being such a good friend!

Schooner, thanks for all your comments along the way.

Mike, thanks for all your support, as far as I know the scraps were cleaned up and discarded back in 2013 and the final disposition was in 2014. My scrap Base was a discarded piece from the day before I was there and the trash bin had been either auctioned or hauled off prior to that. The guy that provided me with it told me that it was scrap and that it was one of the last pieces to be cut out and he identified where it came from on the ship since he personally threw it in the trash. Trash for ship's but a great base for a model....especially since they are the same.

Mobbsie: Hi Tony, thanks for your comments...to answer the question:.....I have no idea!

David, thanks for stopping by and your comments. I know what you mean about the whale, I do not support whaling, nor do I like anything about it. The model of course is a Whaler, and to give it proper justice, I thought I would make a semi-diorama for the purpose of recording it's purpose and a reference as to scale. I'm glad that for the most part this practice has ceased. These massive creatures deserve the ocean and for mankind to leave them alone.

Thanks to all for your continued support.....

John

WOW John, what a beautiful piece of art!  Just love the base, the wood grain really makes it pop and then your artistic foresight to in include a wale and the tool that caught it, the little boat.

I'm anxiously awaiting your next endeavor.  It'll be as nice or better then the Morgan, if that's even possible.  Well done my friend!

There are no words to describe your work and your documentation.  Outstanding.  SInce we last chatted the planking is complete from the plank sheer to the wale and the measurement did the trick, it got me off dead center.   Thanks for your help and let's stay in touch.

John, congratulations on a great finish to a spectacular model.

Your experience and careful documenting thereof has been of great help to me as I plod along working intermittently on the Morgan.

Got diverted finishing up a software project, but will be getting back to work shortly and referencing your build log frequently.

Looking forward to your next (? RV friendly) build.

Those are some great pics John. Isn't it amazing what a difference actual daylight does for the quality of the photo?  :) I'll be spending the next few months getting accessories for a few of the power tools I already have, so I'll be in contact in the next few months for stuff for the mill and other goodies.  ;)

Edit: Almost forgot to ask if you were planning on putting her up in the Gallery here?

I had sent you a personal message some time back congratulating you on such a beautiful build. I just wanted to say it again on the NRG site. I should be getting back to my build soon and like Bruce, will be relying heavily upon your build as I go. Again, just beautiful.

Hi guys, I just wanted to post an update for any one who might be interested.

Even though I am still working on downsizing and liquidating my collectibles, which as of 9-8-2016 are still available, I still have the urge to build something. I have had the kit for the New Bedford Whaleboat by Model Shipways for a while now,  and I have decided to go ahead and build it too.  I have started another Build Log page on my website to document it's construction.  I probably should have done this prior to building the whaleboats for the Morgan so I would have had a better understanding and appreciation for what these little boats meant to a whaler.  I wasn't sure I was going to even attempt building this especially after making 7 boats for the Morgan and when finished with them I was burned out with the duplication.  The model can also travel with me and I can build it in my 5th Wheel much easier than a full size scale ship model.  To go to the log use the link below and  maneuver around to the page:  "Build Log -A- My Whaleboat".  I'm doing this build on my website to complement it and not wanting to duplicate it here as there are already several great build logs.  Anyone wishing to follow my whaleboat build please use the below link.

Hope all is well with everyone,

John
