What is the purpose of the holes in the side walls?

The granaries were often used to dry some seeds (nuts, chestnuts, cereals, etc...).
The holes are there to ventilate and remove some moisture.
But these windows were also used to bring in a little daylight if the attic was inhabited.
One can also imagine that it was a kind of personal pigeon loft. The pigeon was particularly popular at that time.

Will there be a balcony in front to get access to the pie cooling rack?

No, no balcony. But a baker's shovel coming and certainly a ladder as well.
A second ladder will be in place to climb up the back wall.
For once, I used this authentic 14th century house as a model.

That's very good, Ekis. Am I right in thinking this building backs onto the external curtain wall? Otherwise I don't know why there'd be a fortified tower to protect the bakery - unless from the villagers!

Thanx Steven !
You're absolutely right, indeed. This building does incorporate part of the exterior wall. I'll take a picture of its location to show you.
Actually, this oven is between the half-timbered house and the watchtower.

By the way, the walkway with the tower has since been covered to become a sheltered gallery. ☺️

Hi,

What you are doing with this kit is a joy to watch.  I have a slightly battered version of this model that I need to dust off and complete but very jealous as I can get nowhere near the quality of your build.

I haven't finished the roof of the village's communal oven yet. I had very little time these last few days to model...

But I devoted myself to one little thing anyway to complete the main constructions: a wall separating the village from the cloister.

It was out of the question to let the villagers and other visitors see the inside of the monastic part, contrary to the assembly of the basic kit.

So a separation was almost obligatory!

I added a well leaning against the wall and a drinking trough for the herds and/or the animals in the market place. The layout of this well is inspired by a real site. 😉

Ekis,

Take your time, it’s worth the wait on our part. The well, trough is a nice combination. I like that everything  isn’t perpendicular. Much more natural looking. Any other specialty buildings that will be needed. Blacksmith’s maybe. Tavern?

It's done: the village's communal oven is finished.

I like the result, there are practically no right angles, an infernal roof, woods that seem already worn out. 😁

I show some views of the village as it is today, and especially the 3 separate parts (and my glasses for the scale of the whole...) to understand the final cut.

Ekis,  The oven takes the prize so far for the most interesting building. The street level views really look great. So what is next to do? Are you bouncing around to different parts of the village to keep things “fresh”, or do you have a planned sequence? Have you surprised yourself yet by going in a completely different way than you had envisioned things? It sure looks like fun.

I honestly thought it was bigger... until I saw the glasses.  Holy cow.    It's even more incredible.

Beautiful work, Ekis. I know this is a ship modelling forum, but your work is fantastic. And there seems to be a small but growing group of members coming up with architectural builds in the "Non-ship builds" section.

I have been mesmerized by this build from the first picture Ekis. Now that you show the scale it is even more astonishing. When yo put the camera down at street level I feel I am really there walking the streets myself. Truly astonishing.

It seems the town additions are constantly evolving and your speed is astonishing. Would you take on the job of our city mayor? We have had several upgrade projects in my town for the entire year so far. Even with the lightened traffic and lack of other distractions this year, the new construction still progresses at a snails pace making the city sometimes almost impossible to navigate. We need someone like you who has a vision and knows how to get it done!

Many thanks to all of you for your comments and follow-up! 😁

@Kurt, the next building will be the Lord's House with its 2 bodies and tower.
In fact, I need to build it in order to know where I will be with my stone stock and to consider other things afterwards...

And to answer you, I don't have a precise planning, I do what I enjoy the most or change a little of what I have just finished... For example, I made this oven without having planned it at the beginning, but I found it interesting and different to show this type of construction...
For the next part (after the Lord's House), everything is possible, and I still have a lot of ideas...
