Looks great Kevin - are you going to trenail  every frame on that lower deck?

good morning everyone

Day 47

i had a long discussion with the dog, he understands me more, and listens more than the wife, and treenailing came up, coctail sticks wasnt going to work on the lower deck, but the illusion was required

so holes were drilled, and light wood paste was used rubbed in, allowed to dry and sanded, fo far we have come up with this, the lower deck support is just going back in

good evening everyone, two post in one day

and managed to get two episodes of Hornblower in, just love that series

day 49 1/2 deck framing/planking

still very much work in progress,

a question for all you good people out there these 1/2 decks, how were they supported, i see no deck support beams, i do see upright post, but nothing to secure it to the ships hull

this afternoon i planked the port side, only then realised that the hatch covers need to be flush with the deck, not raised

good evening everyone

day 51 1/2 deck reworks

i have spent the last day or do getting used to my power tools, at last i am getting confident with them

so on the 4th attempt i have one of the after 1/2 decks that fits the hull and im happy with it

the size is right and the height, however the wood used is not true to scale, but for now im going with it, again 1/2 will be planked, the slightly lower one is still being made, im unsure of the names for these decks, ( i will find out)

Good evening everyone

thank you for comments and likes

Day 52

well the after 1/2 decks are well on the way to completion, i will have a better idea how to do the larger front ones, but i may leave that for a while and try to ensure i have the skills to start the deck above so that i can see if the storerooms fit

good evening everyone

day55 after section lower deck

i tried and tried to cut/mil/scroll/trace,shout at, but failed in making any presentable deck beams, never mind all the bits that goes with it, for me it was going to be a tall order and i did not want to just go and do the basic kit, so i sulked for a day and decided to adapt the upper deck to fit, then order another main deck at a later date

so i have made a lot of the upper deck set and then cut them down to size to fit the  lower deck support beams, i dont know if this is going to work, but its all part of kevs joiurney, bit like going to the dark side, but with the lights on

the after beams that cover the 1/2 deck are temporary spaced apart and as everything  removeable at this time i can now work out the bulkheads for storerooms etc away from the hull

That is some complex work going on there mate,  I think the additon of lower  constructions  and how you fit them  - is down to how  you feel about the level of difficulty - some times we can battle against the impossible.

Just do what you feel ok with.

OC.

Thank you OC HMS Covid will continue along these lines, i will make it work, if it was easy, it would,,,,,,,,,,,,, well ...................be easier

What a great solution to a lot of work and wood thrown away learning how to do it right! I think I may have to follow in your footsteps, I was wondering how I could replicate those spur beams and keep all those carlings (carlines?) in alignment.....have you asked Tom if you can get replacement decks? Or is it pretty much one of the sub kits?

there is a set cost for each of the lasered billets, its by no means an easy choice, as i feel i have taken the easy route out, and  added unnecessary  cost to the build

Nice work and I see you cautiously stepping into the Dark Side.  Beware though.  Once you've crossed the line, there's no turning back.  Don't ask how I know this but I know the path you're one.

i keep giggling to my self when i made up the new signature above my name

Its all part of Kev's journey, bit like going to the dark side, but with the lights on

Good morning everyone

day 58 redo of after 1/2 deck

sorry, i have not been around much recently, life got in the way

since the last post, i restarted the 1/2 decks yet again, i was struggling on getting everything level and on the centreline, i found that making the modules away from the hull far harder than it needed to be

lol after pulling it all apart, i then realised why i could not get the line line spot on, it was because one side in planked,  and constantly throwing me out

anyway the after 1/2 deck is redone and secured within the frame, as it is going to be so low in the vessel, i also opted to do away with the exposed beams, as quite frankly they looked quite naff

the forward bulkheads not look as bad as they do in the phot, but maybe i had better redo them as well

not the best photos, i am now looking at the best way to make up the bulkheads

Good evening everyone

thankyou for the likes and comments

Day 58 after 1/2 deck compartments

lol its the longest time that the after 1/2 deck has not been removed, and relocated to the rubbish bin, and whats more surprising, is the fact that i am now adding bits on top as the storage compartments come into play, i am of course jiggling bits around, as i am building the Enterprise, but only have References to the Pandora, so as a result some of the areas are not the correct size, but they hopefully wont look to stoooooooooooooopid
