Hi all,

Hope you are doing well as modelling season after summer has really started.

New products are listed on web but not all.

Check: https://www.hobbymill.eu

Some updates:

1) HMS Winchelsea is now offered also as Boxwood version. Listed price 322 EUR

2) Syren Ship Model Companys Cheerful 1806 wood package with milled stripes has been added:

- Boxwood version - 170 EUR

- Yellow cedar version - 130 EUR

3) American holly has arrived and looks great. It truly is white with almost no visible grain (sry for bad photos).

As its not a big amount and each piece is different dimension its offered based on request. If someone is interested in full blanks then feel free to contact me.

- Im still waiting feedback on stabilized hornbeam. When i sent in the final order then supplier just disappeared, lets hope i catch him soon.

- Light pear (stock running low) supplier went trough his whole lot and came back with no superprime blanks (i respect the honesty when they said this isnt the quality you want). But luckily i found after weeks of searching an other one. I just sent them order and lets hope i get it soon.

- Saw blades....yes interesting turn of events....

So its been really hard to find suitable blades even with adapters here in EU. I finally found supplier who makes them by order with clients modifications. I got some pieces with D100 that cut really well. I had problem before with boxwood and hornbeam thicker than 7mm but these worked really well. I will order some 80mm ones also as i think those are even better. At some point when im sure myself that the blades are really good then it will be available for orders also. Only reserve is that you must buy sheets also or be existing client so i dont become supplier for blades. Im still testing if hollow ground (0,2mm less than teeth) helps with cutting or not.

Contact me directly here or by email if there are any questions etc.

This is an extract from my current build log about my first order from HobbyMill EU

In preparation for hull planking I ordered a full range of Pearwood strip.

392305204_IMGP1023(2).thumb.JPG.480ea0bff5086976b5c6e276627253a6.JPG

1023(2)

Strip Pale Pearwood timber, the longer paler strips are the kit supplied Pearwood for comparison.

Each size of timber comes in packs of 10, sufficient for most spiling requirements, and the range of plank widths will allow me more flexibility.

The whole process of ordering was a pleasure, Vahur is very helpful, kept me fully informed by email, and provided full tracking details.

I received the timber 15 days after order.

The timber was well packed and presented in separate plastic sleeves for each size.

It is of excellent quality and pale in colour as ordered.

I did a random check of dimensions and the tolerences seemed to be in the range of +0.1/-0.1 in widths.

Extra strips were included in each packet to allow for any discrepancies. In the 0.8mm x 1mm strips an extra 6 pieces were included with the 10 ordered.

1030(2)

The lower strips are the kit provided strip, and the upper ones the Hobbymill.

The kit strips are paler in colour, but the hobbymill versions a closer match to the planking patterns.

1027(2)

The colour tone across the range  is even. The longer paler strips in the photo are the kit provided strip.

1028

These are the 10mm and 0.9mm  strips.

In addition to the strip wood I ordered some square/rectangular stock.

1919169016_IMGP1035(2).thumb.JPG.a7bc582cae86fef1901a2f5b108101ca.JPG

1035(2)

This will be used for constructional elements that may arise.

Finally, Vahur included some samples of other available timbers, Yellow cedar, Hornbeam, Dark Pearwood, Boxwood,  and Holly.

All looking to be of excellent quality and cleanly cut.

I am happy that we have at last got a European supplier of quality timbers, and on the strength of my first order I am happy to recommend.

Glad to hear that you are happy!

Yes i added 6pcs extra of 0,8x1 as its almost impossible to cut normally so you would have enough pieces :) .

Hi all,

Hope you are doing well.

Some updates to announce.

New available products:

Black hornbeam

I looks amazing (not a sales guy talking but fellow modeller), bends well. Its truly black in and out.

Strips 400mm long and sheets 35-40mm wide.

American holly

Amazing white. Available as strips and sheets. Price list only for strips as sheets all pieces are more unique in length but for strips average price can be calculated.

American walnut

Available as sheets and strips.

Prices can be seems here for strips: https://hobbymill.voog.com/products/woodstrips

Soon to be available:

Really light swiss pearwood i finally got from Germany. Initial test are all good. Will try it out fully in near time.

Still looking and discussing other hornbeam colors: yellow, blue, green.

Any questions, quotes and more info: write me here or email hobbymill.eu@gmail.com

Dont be scared of full pallet of pear :) (there arent so many orders  that i would use it fast :) ). To keep costs down i have to buy the full pallet. If i buy small amount here locally then i have to pay 2-3 times that i would buy for pallet from big resellers in EU. This pallet should be enough for few years

With best regards,

Hi all,

Hope you are doing well and happy new year!

Time for some updates.

Hobbymill.EU products now include all following woods:

1) Alaskan yellow cedar

2) Castello boxwood

3) Light swiss pear

4) Dark swiss pear

5) American walnut

6) White hornbeam

7) American holly

8 ) Colored hornbeam:

- black

- yellow

- brown

- green

- orange

- red/pink

9) Beech

10) Cherry

Updated base price lists are located here:

https://hobbymill.eu/products/woodstrips

All those are available as strips, sheets and also wood turning blanks.

Note that colored hornbeam has max width of 35-40mm and length 400mm.

From mid February I also offer saw blades (only for customers who also buy wood as thats not my main idea) suitable for Byrnes saw without adapter.

Blades are with diameter of 80mm, thicknesses 1,2/ 1,0 / 0,8 mm and teeth 64 / 80 /120. Blades are with and without hollow ground.

Note that these are the same blades i cut strips myself with only change that it used to be D100mm but changed to D80mm.

There has been few questions about samples that im happy to provide. Only concern is that each piece of log is still slightly different.

I thought about this and i came up with solution if someone is interested.

If you have a big build then i can "reserve" material for you and you dont have to order it all at once.

Example you start building from Ancre plans and want to use boxwood. Then i would need rough number and sizes of sheets you intend to use and i would book that specific blank for you for future orders also for certain period of time. This would have good impact on having same color shade for complete build. More info about that case by case.

Thank you for supporting Hobbymill.EU.

With best regards,

This week I got  a "little" parcel with really nice milled boxwood from hobymill.eu. Vahur put also some extra sheets and wood samples to my order.

The timber has real nice color and was excellent packed. Also the contact and information of Vahur was great.

Hi everyone,

Hope you all are doing well in these interesting times (if we can call it like that).

Not much to update other than trough luck i was able to stock up my black hornbeam. I sent order in just right before the war and it had been stuck there, but trough my Ukrainian friends it finally arrived. So i should have more than enough for some time :).

Addition to sheets and sheets you can also order bigger sizes and rough cut. Prices according to sizes and spices.

For knife etc makers maybe this would be interesting:

Colored hornbeam 40x40x400 (mm) green, yellow, brown, pink/red, orange blanks 15 eur a piece or 40x40x800 30 eur/pc rough cut.

Sad update is that prices of products have to be adjusted (in reality raised) as everything is getting more and more expensive. Latest Clients have already seen that.

Prices on web arent all correct so best way to still order is to send me a e-mail with requested sizes are spices. Website prices will be updated in new future to give indication.

Some photos of recent orders.

As I have just received my order from Vahur,  I'd like to say a big thank you for an old fashioned customer comes first service!!!

He has bent over backwards to get this order to me, the quality of the wood is excellent 👌 and  he takes the time to keep you updated to the status of your order.

As a supplier of most species of wood used in this hobby, he is  definitely worth a 5 🌟 rating.

In short excellent quality, excellent service and competitive prices.

Thankyou!!

I placed an order with Vahur a couple of weeks ago as I was interested to see if Black Hornbeam might be a suitable substitute for Ebony. So I ordered one piece each of 10mm and 6mm. For such a small order, the postage actually cost more than the timber, but that is not Vahur's fault - I'm kinda used to the extortionist costs of international postage these days! Vahur kindly also included some samples of other timbers, including White Hornbeam, Swiss Pear (both dark and light), Holly, Costello Boxwood, and Alaskan Yellow Cedar. Delivery time was under two weeks, which is quite exceptional these days - I usually figure on a minimum of a month for international deliveries. Vahur also went to considerable effort to package the timber very securely to prevent any damage during transit.

The timber itself is beautifully milled. It is of the same standard as that which some of us were used to receiving from Jeff Hayes at Hobbymill (US) before he retired, and that is a very high bar indeed.

Full marks to Vahur for both quality of product and customer service - five stars all round 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. I highly recommend Hobbymill (EU) as a go-to source of model timber supplies.

Oh, and the answer to my orginal question is yes, I think that Black Hornbeam can be used in place of Ebony. I compared it to a piece of Ebony I had on hand, and it is hard to tell the difference.

Thank you, Vahur. 😊

Placed an order with Vahur a couple of weeks ago for wood package for Syren models HMS Cheerful in alaskan yellow cedar. Arrived last week. Very pleased with quality of wood and accuracy of the milling. Vahur also kindly supplied a sample pack of the other woods he can supply which also look to of great quality.

Can happily recommend Hobbymill EU for anyone needing wood this side of the pond.

Hello all,

Hope you are doing well!

First i would like to thank everyone for their support and purchases.

2nd is that i plan to take some time off in end of July and start of August for few weeks.

So if you need anything shipped by that time then please contact me.

3rd, i see a lot of discussions how to prevent burn marks on strips, jams etc etc. There are so many different approaches so i thought to share you mine.

Hopefully in few weeks i have enough time to show i do it with maximum 3-5 eur investment :) .

This method allows you to cut strips even 10mm wide without burn marks or jams. My writing skill are not be best and i tend to jump around in subject but lets see how that goes then.

If site admins have any guidelines/suggestions for that then you are more than welcome to guide me trough.

4th i haven't focused really on webpage as main Customers are still trough MSW and intention isn't really have big web shop.

So for latest info please contact me directly.

Thank you everyone again for their support.

This weekend I received the second part of a bigger timber order. I am really happy with the delivery. Especially the Holly is looking really good. This gives a nice contrast to my yellow cedar and boxwood.

Highly recommended!

Vahur,

Would you please post a link to this as I can’t seem to find it in the “Tips and Tricks” section, nor by searching content under your screen name?

Thanks

This weekend I received the second part of a bigger timber order. I am really happy with the delivery. Especially the Holly is looking really good. This gives a nice contrast to my yellow cedar and boxwood.

Highly recommended!

Thank you for the trust!

I purchased the Hobbymill EU boxwood package for my Cheerful from Vahur and I cannot praise the quality of the wood and the machining highly enough (and the quantity - Vahur added a number of pieces over and above Chuck's woodlist to ensure I didn't go short as well as samples of his other stock). And Vahur is a very pleasant fellow. Highly recomended!

Hello all,

Havent posted anything for a long time :) .

First of all I would like to thank you all for the trust. Its very pleasant to see that 99% of Clients are very happy with their products.

Secondly i would like to apologize for long delivery times. Its summary of holidays, being sick and moving to house. Im trying to catch up on those.

Thirdly there has been so many orders/requests lately so i cant really understand whats going on. This created a situation where queue is 4-6 weeks as i only work on Sundays and evening as for me its hobby also.

At some point i thought if i should close the shop as it just takes so much time from family. I have read stories about good wood suppliers closing exactly for the same reason.

After thinking over it for a week i decided to make investment to bring shop to next level and keep up with the normal deadlines of 2-3 weeks.

As a side note i run custom made metal facade factory on daily basis so setting up a shop something im use to.

In nearest months + during the summer i will update the shop with some new equipment (machines, feeders etc) and also room layout to make it more efficient.

Until then please accept little longer delivery times as usual :) .

The webshop has been closed as most orders come in as email anyways but webpage is up there (not been updated).

Sadly i have to say that i had to look trough the prices also as everything has gone so expensive starting from heating, saw blades etc etc etc.

Regarding stock i have limited myself to: pear, c.boxwood, Alaskan yellow cedar, colored hornbeam, white hornbeam and holly.

Cherry and other spices are might be available based on request.

Thank you all again for trust and support!
