I love those burly radial engined Sea Furies. Magnificent aircraft. A larger scale would really show it's presence off.

Alan

Only two I know of are, one from Hobbycraft and a harder-to-find one from Fisher Models in resin, cast metal and photo etch. Both are 1:32 scale. A dear price for the Fisher Model, around 300 - 500 dollars, and the Hobbycraft one often goes for 100 - 200 dollars. The Hobbycraft kit needs a lot of help. Both have been OOP for a long time. I bid on a Fisher Models one from a guy in Germany but got outbid. Not interested in one for $200+. Will wait until one comes out from Asia which is bound to happen sooner or later. Surprised Trumpeter hasn't already done one in 1:32 really.

They have the primo 1/48 Fury right now, they won't even think of 1/32 until someone else like Tamiya announces one....

The Hobbycraft kit is the only game in town.... Evilbay has them at 200.00 US dollars right now (up to 280.00) and as you say they are OOP so they are going to go up in the future... A Fischer kit is in the stratosphere range right now, high end collector type stuff... (if you can find one)

You sure it's 1/350th? I have the same kit coming out of Ukraine now for 19 days and tracking says it hasn't left there yet... but it's in 1/35th scale...

Been going on a WW I binge as of late... expanding the stash... {chuckle}

Thank you very much EG. There are some weird and wonderful attempts at complicated camouflage schemes towards the end of the war with the British bringing artists in to create paint schemes. Some are incredibly detailed and complicated dazzle style schemes. In the end they mostly got covered in mud anyway.

Alan

I bought the following lithograph about 25 years ago. image.thumb.jpeg.7e6c64d3be020619fb6c7ff3e318c9fc.jpeg
Turns out that the artist Edward Wadsworth painted dazzle camouflage designed by Norman Wilkinson on ships during WWI. Both members of the Vorticist School of art.

The 6" Gun was a coastal defense gun that was pulled from it's mounting and put on a "Mobile" Carriage... There were two different versions the M1917 and the M1918 as you can see in the pic, they were shipped to France but the war ended before they could be deployed... The kit depicts the M1918, I haven't looked at it close enough to see if it can depict the M1917 yet, but all the parts are there...

It a fantastic piece of 3D print work...

Comes with it's transport wagon and limbers as well...

Great minds think alike... {chuckle}

I may have to invest in the 1/48 kit. It occurs to me that a Sea Fury / Douglas Skyraider combo would make a great display. Another project in the wings

A small amount of progress over the Christmas period, I added a little more grass effect and then the shattered trees, a fallen wall and some clumps of weeds. I tried using the Woodland Scenic tall grass and found it very difficult to work with but added some around the tree stumps and the wall A few small bushes were added and I think that is probably enough. I'm somewhat tempted to keep adding more vegetation but I think it will end up looking too busy. Some of the vegetation may be a bit over scale but I'll see what it looks like once the figures are in place.

I made a first pass at the water in the shell holes and in some of the deeper wheel ruts. After experiments with white glue I used a thick layer of high gloss Mod Podge over a few dabs of green and yellow craft acrylics. Accounts of WW1 always seem to refer to the bilious nature of the water in the shell holes. It's still drying but it looks encouraging to me.

I returned to the Whippet and gave it a spray over of diluted buff and brown to take the showroom look off it. The canvas track guards were added and dirtied up

I have started working on the clutter on the tank. Some rolled tarps are in work and the cans that hang off the back. These are styrene rod with handles made of old PE frets of appropriate size. i think they will look OK with a bit of paint.

Thank you all for looking in and the comments and likes

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas

Your ground work looks suitably muddy. And your added clutter on the vehicles is a great idea. They look sterile without it. 👍

Thnk you very much OC. I want to add some more tall grass but I need to find a better way to install it. It tends to go everywhere except where you had planned. I might see if I can make some clumps off the base and then place them.

I completed twelve cans and adding the PE handles left me suitably cross eyed.

Alan, I took a scenery clinic/class at a train convention that used clumps of plant matter that were in small sticky clusters on a plastic sheet. I wish I could remember the brand. It was real easy to just peel and stick. Maybe EG or some of the other model railroaders remember that stuff.

Thanks, EG. I thought so, but it was 10 years ago. That info was stored in the sub-basement and a long way from the main aisle way. 😄

I had discovered the Woodland Scenic clumped vegetation and bought the prairie grass version. I didn't read far enough to realise they also did tall grass too in that style. It would be a whole lot easier than messing with the loose tall grass material. I think I have made enough of my own for this project but will definitely get some for the next.

I made up some small clumps of the Woodland Scenic tall grass material and dabbed one end in qhite glue and set them on a bit of parchment paper to dry

1027932329_RIMG1683(1280x1094).thumb.jpg.95b7359cca8b163827569fd65a3bc5d4.jpg

Once dry they were easy to peel off the parchment paper and add to the base.

The water in the shell holes has dried clear and looks reasonable although maybe a bit lurid from some angles.

As discussed above I bought the Woodland Scenic premade clumps of prairie grass seen below as the somewhat bushy stuff to the right of the picture and the homemade tall grass tufts to the left

And in use in other parts of the base

I've started the base coats on the figures. I'm a bit concerned that the khaki is a bit too green. I was planning to use buff on the belts, puttees and kitbags / pouches but I find I have run out so will order more along with some different khakis. The transplanted heads seem to look natural which is a relief
