It's looking like you've planned it out good Boyd. I notice the angle from the pencil marks on the hull to the notches in the channel and it looks like you've accounted for and matched the angle of the shroud. Nice! Cheers

US Brig Syren by Gahm - Model Shipways
GLakie replied to Gahm's topic in - Kit build logs for subjects built from 1801 - 1850
Just came across your Syren Thomas, and you're doing a marvelous job on every aspect of her. I especially like your work on the stern galleries, and I'll always take pause to admire attention to detail like you've shown. Thanks for posting this. Cheers -
Yea---Don't know about the tank in the water idea. She'd look funny with the hatch for the dingy open to the sea! Cheers

Thanks for the info Henry. That makes perfect sense to me. Research---Then research some more.

Hi Henry I don't want to hi-jack this thread but, just for my own curiosity, how accurate do you think the MS plans for the Connie are? They seem very detailed and well done, but we all know, shortcuts are taken in the design of these models. Cheers

Looks good Dale! As long as it works, doesn't matter what the tool looks like. Fixed post 399. Don't usually get names wrong but it was an interesting day. Cheers

Very nice Dave! Both are great but I like the bigger one more as well. Cheers -
Wow! I hope those squirrels aren't mind-readers. They might band together and go on strike. Or worse yet, start a revolt.

Looks good John! And it looks like they'd be as difficult, or worse, than regular rope ratlines to install. Cheers

Looks good Dave! From what I've read about Sculpey, it should sand and finish well. -
Nice work Augie! Love the detail in your stove. I get the "itch" to start mine every time I stop by! To self:---Patience grasshopper! Cheers

I don't think it's available until after 500 posts Matt. Couldn't say why.

Ah! Thanks. I couldn't help but notice in your signature you have The Squirrel Whisperer down. Cool! We've all heard about "Puppy Mills". Maybe you should start up a "Squirrel Mill" for all of us that will be needing assistance with intricate details and such.

Looks good Matt! How did you get the sharpened look back on them? By filing or paint? Cheers

Thanks. I know I couldn't go through that many without a few minor mishaps myself. Hence the question.

You're right about the nice subtle look Chuck. I like it. One question though. Did you have any instances of the lead of the pencil breaking off in those tiny holes? Cheers

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
