  1. I remember getting my hand pulled into our slitter. I was leveling out material as it was going through and my hand got caught in a tear. I stopped it but still got banged up. Fortunately for me just banged it up. The blades were not being used at the time I remove them when not in use. Safety first. David B
  2. You are doing a real bang up job. Keep up the good work.. Ironic spring is coming up and you can go to a tropical island for awhile. I would have Disappeared in January and stayed through Mar. But that is life. Fantastic model I wish I could see it up close. If possible I will be going to Mystic this year. It all depends on many things. I am sure you will have that beauty on display to show off your tremendous achievement. David B
  3. Great looking model. Too bad I cannot eyeball it. I am sure that some of what you did was part of an educated guess or were you able to get all the info from the museum? Have fun on a tropical paradise. Where you can at least have some warm toes. David B
  4. I have a Paache H that I had for years. And now a Badger 360 Renegade. Both do the job. The Badger takes a little longer to clean out with acrylics but is worth the hassle. Once you get some practice you will never pick up a brush again if you can help it. Great video. And both are perfect for everything we do. David B
  5. When you put out a book it will be fantastic. I am learning more every time I come to this log. David B
  6. I think caulking for deck planking should be a little subtle. That is why I use a pencil of the edge. It all depends on the scale of the build. Plus when using line for the caulking you have to be careful when smoothing the deck. Good luck. David B
  7. Magnificent piece of work Remco. Real clean and neat. What kind of wood did you use? David B
  8. Tight fit for that pinvise. Why go outward and not the other way? David B

  10. Flex cut makes good chisels that hold an edge well. David B
  11. When I find Excell blades I usually get them as they seem to hold an edge longer. I by both in bulk when I can. For delicate work I prefer a scalpel for agrees I've work a number 11 blade. David B
  12. You are doing a real big up job. Makes me think about doing a miniature myself. David B
  13. I think you are making the caulking to wide for the scale. Nice idea but go thinner. My advice would be use the line as a spacer and after the deck is planked and smoothed put it in. That way you will have a neat look. David B
  14. Use a small block plane and shape the spar then I put in a mototool and with sandpaper smooth it out this works for me. David B
  15. I found beech a nice wood for masts and spars. As for the drill method. I have started out with shaving shaving squart stock to the dimension I want then starting with 120 grit sandpaper run it until round then progress to finer grit to get a smooth finish mark the dimension and shave again then start over until the final shaping. About a half hour to do one then on to the next. David B
  16. They are indeed works of art. Gold medal winners. David B
  17. I hope you get better soon Cap't Steve and hopefully you do not become a 6 million dollar man. David B
  18. Be careful when you clean the painted surfaces. The paint may come off from oxidation. David B
  19. The Endeavor makes into a real beauty. And lends itself to add ons if you feel the need. I hope you have fun. David B
  20. Have you thought about how to rig the bowsprit? It will be under stress and from the way you have it it snap off when you are in the middle of rigging. No support. David B
