Would like to share my condolences as well. The echo cross section is a great way in my opinion to get your feet wet in scratch building, I used it as a proof of concept to start my Pegasus and the plans, material from Jeff and of course help from Greg/David are invaluable. I wish you clear weather and good sailing and I will be watching with interest. Ben

Greg, I think doing the transoms and hawse timbers will certainly not be a piece of cake for me, I can see them taking a good long time and plenty of do overs.

Thanks for the likes. Patrick - I intend for the next build to be the 44gun Razee Frigate HMS Indefatigable, I have all the plans from NMM and working on and off with them in ACAD at the moment, but thats a long way in the future. ben

Very nice to see your log and syren back here. Ben -
Thanks for all the likes everybody. Hi Druxey, Actually the deadwood in that picture hasn't been attached to the keel yet and was just there sat balancing for the photo. But I have left it a little "full" until the sternpost is installed and then I will do the final shaping at the end.

Hi Floyd, I didn't replace any wood, managed to get a pretty good result with the basswood. As for the mounting I made a cradle out of basswood, I'm afraid I don't have any pictures to show as it's with it's new owner.

Hi mark, a steady pace is better than stopped! I would be like you if I was doing a V2.0, slow and making a lot of checks - you seem to have that well under control. Ben

Thanks Rusty and Augie and the likes. Augie - she will be bigger than the Confed, but small compared to the next way in the future project. Ben

Small update, Stem Pieces, Lower and Upper Apron and Fore Deadwood completed and glued to the keel. I used some bamboo treenails and a #65 bit to add some heavy reinforcement to these pieces as you can see. Now I need to do the tapering up/down from 14" at top to 10" and the keel. I have started making the aft deadwood pieces from 15" stock. ben

Hi As Augie said, there's always plenty of other things to prepare for, ships boats if you intend to do them, making and rigging all the cannons would be a great one to get out of the way, just be sure to make a mockup and test on the model to make sure the heights are correct to your gunports before the production line starts cranking them out! About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
