  1. Hi bill, good to see you starting. I have to agree about flattening out the bulkhead former before doing anything else as per alistair, I have found that soaking the ply in water and then drying out over a day or so works well, just don't soak the ply to long as the glue between the plys will make it come apart. Whatever way you decide to do it, just make sure the former is perfectly strait or you will be in for trouble. Look forward to watching your build. Ben
  2. Sweet Gary! It is a shame to cover that great framing, but she's a man'o'war! Captains choice! Ben
  3. Vol 2 of Niaad is as good as if not better than Vol 1, and that's saying something. Thanks Ed and seawatch for creating this. Ben
  4. I knew you would redo them Danny, you are too good to let something like that get by! I look forward to seeing the new version. Ben
  5. She's very beautiful Greg, framing is awesome. Ben
  6. Optivisor is very good, glass lenses and you can get an led light adaptor. I have a couple of cheap plastic lens ones but not as comfortable or good as the optivisor. eBay and Amazon always have them. Ben
  7. Hey Ron, Really enjoyed your how to make a capstan dialog and photos, always helpful to see how somebody else thinks and goes about doing something like that. Ben
  8. Oh Damn! Sorry to hear of the mishap mate, I have had many while building the Confed, mainly on the stern area though. I'm sure you will get through it, I had to rip off hull planking more than once man, look forward to seeing more. Ben
  9. Hi Chris and I think the cheeks look superb, your carving ability is really coming along excellently! I hope when I get to that point on Pegasus I have the patience you have shown in learning that most difficult of skills. Really well done mate. Ben
  10. Hey Rusty, I think you have totally mastered the art of cutting the mortises for beams and carlings! Really need to come and have some training from you on doing these before starting Pegasus! Ben
  11. Hi JP. It looks really good to me buddy! The black wales look really good, how did you find using the newton and Windsor acrylics, I used the lamp black color myself but I had to leave it 5 days until it fully dried. Glad to see you back on a roll. Ben
  12. That was an impressive set of pics mike, are you going to rig it as well ? Ben
  13. Thanks Rusty, I hope you get back to your Echo when the big bomb is finished, I want to see what you do to yours! I can tell you though that when the Confed is completed I very much doubt I will make another mass produced kit again, the dark side will swallow me completely ;-)
  14. Sweet build board Albert, I have to make one for my TFFM Pegasus and yours looks just like what I want to do. Ben
  15. Thanks everyone, I think the drill bit city ones look really good and I could use in any of my drills so that's the way I think I will go. Ben
  16. Hi all, I need you advice on chucking micro drills #60 - #80 into a normal drill press chuck or a dremel tool. So far I have just used a normal cheap pin vise to achieve this step down in size or used the pin vise by hand. Anybody have advice on how they do it would be great as well as links to manufactures of these sort of chucks/adapters for power tools. Ben
  17. Thanks JP, always nice to hear from you. Ben
  18. Thanks Jim and Augie, and everybody else for following this build log, without MSW I doubt I would have made it this far, great people here! Now to start tearing my current workshop apart and rebuilding it to a true bespoke dockyard for the work to come! :-)
  19. Yep, nice to see the blocks finally going to their intended destination, great work. Ben
  20. Thanks Bob, Chris, Druxey, Mark and Grant for looking in and your warm comments. As for those inquiring minds, next job is to finish the little bit of rigging left on the longboat to complete it and get it in its case as well. Then I will continue with the Confederacy, while making the build board, lots of clamps and fixtures for the Pegasus build. I don't expect to do anything on the Pegasus until well into the new year, so by that time I should of completed the gundeck and stuff on the Confed, then I will work on both side by side as I need a rest/change during builds. See you all in the other side, the dark side of me has to sleep for a while. Ben
  21. Final Pictures of my Echo completed and in its final resting place. I have enjoyed immensly this build and want to say a big thanks to Greg and David for making this available and for the great plans, instructions and help. Now to get ready for the Pegasus ben
  22. Nice work on those pin rails Ron, good idea adding some structural strength. Ben
