  1. Thanks John, I'm getting faster. That time included preparing all the blanks from sheet stock, so I'm pretty happy with the afternoon's work. Of course, if I had Chuck's son working with me, I'm sure I could up the output rate!.............. Oh for a young and willing apprentice, prepared to work for slave labour rates!
  2. Very nicely said Remco. And to echo others comments, your build log continues to be an inspiration to many of us here.
  3. Now you're just messing with my head Alexandru! Superbly done and wonderfully illustrated.
  4. Mobbsie, You need to clear out you PM mailbox mate - it won't let me send you anymore!
  5. Thanks Bob, Judging by the standard of your work that I've seen here, I'm sure you could turn out some pretty nice blocks yourself.......if you chose to (and I have to admit, it does get a little tedious.........) Well, not much time in the shipyard this weekend, after a killer week at work, so just ran up a batch of 5mm single and double blocks this afternoon. I used the basic dimensions that Chuck gives for 3/16" blocks and just made them a tad longer (5mm vs 4.76mm). Here's the result of about 5 hours work (70 doubles and 186 singles): I know the photos start to look all the same, but if don't put it up here, SeeYours will be on my case quicker that a rat up a drain pipe!
  6. Thanks Patrick, Your own build is looking mighty fine too.
  7. She looks great Patrick. I read somewhere that the black/yellow bands don't follow the line of the gunports exactly, but hey, it's your ship so you get to decide (particularly noting the lack of instructions).
  8. Thanks John for the kind words. Nice to see you back. I look forward to catching an update on your own build.
  9. Well, that'll be a first!!! And I note it didn't last long either! :P
  10. Looking very nice my friend. I do believe that bus was at Chatham, unless you drove it down to Portsmouth
  11. Thanks Lawrence for the kind words, No plans to go into business with these. If you'd like to buy something similar (but probably better), check out Chuck's blocks on his Syren Company site. I have simply used his method to make my own.
  12. That's one monster kit Kevin! I'll follow along with interest too, even though it's you who have left us (woodies that is). Do you plan to keep your Vic going in parallel, or are you taking a total break from wood?
  13. I've seen lots of ways of making gratings before Sherry, but never that one! Looks like you've done your usual fine job too. Well done!
  14. Hey, great story Mahuna. As a proud owner of both Sherline lathe and Mill (and more accessories than I care to let my wife know about ) it's nice to read about such fabulous customer support. I'm glad for you that you had such an opportunity.
  15. Nicely done Bob. Good choice to proceed with the treenails.
  16. Welcome home John. It's great to hear that you had such a wonderful trip, capped off by the opportunity to meet with some of the truly wonderful people from this forum. Now, get in the shipyard and get back to work!
  17. Hi Robert, Great to see you back in the shipyard and continuing with your lovely build. Looks like your gun carriages are going to turn out great. Of course, we all know that this was just another excuse to play with your Byrnes saw Isn't it just a wonderful machine to use?!!!
  18. Jsiegel17, Welcome to my log. I am truly glad if my humble build has inspired a return to your own build. I thought mine had been going a little while, having started in 1996, but it seems you have about ten years on me! As long we remind ourselves that it's not a race, well be okay! Do you have a build log of your own? If not, it's never too late to start one It will be your best source of advice, encouragement, and inspiration. In the meantime, if I can be of any further assistance, don't hesitate to ask.
  19. Nice looking work space Kevin. Now let's see some work!
  20. Gosh that's good Karl. Simply wonderful! I'm with Joe (Wacko Wolf) - I could sit and stare at your pictures all day. What a treat!
  21. Danny, For the benefit of any Aussies wondering, you can order LoS online here: http://www.polymerclay.com.au/xlgel2liverofsulphurextendedlifegel2oz-p-12378.html I have some and it works really well.
  22. Okay you lot, stand aside or lose a limb!!! I'm coming through - a little late, but in time for a second row seat at least I hope. Looks to be a really interesting subject John, I'll join the crowd and applaud as usual.
