  1. Great work Mobbsie, I'll be around to inspect it in person tomorrow!
  2. Just getting a quick fix before the day's activities Sjors. Just enough to keep me going. Man, this MSW addiction is tough!
  3. Thanks all for the good wishes for our trip (and the kind words regarding the blocks). We're one week into the trip now, and to keep things ship modelling related, we did visit the Musee Nationale de la Marine in Paris. Very interesting and some great models. I took lots of pics for you know who, but as I don't have the ability to resize them from the iPad, posting them will have to wait until we get home. So far in the last week, after leaving home on Monday morning, we spent a total of 22 hours flying time, one day in Hong Kong (to break the flight), arrived London on Wednesday and spent the day walking around Winchester (UK), Thursday went to Oxford (UK) for the day, caught the train to Paris from London on Friday, did a three hour night time tour of the Louvre that evening (best time to go - far fewer people), Maritime Museum and Eiffel Tower on Saturday, Palace of Versailles on Sunday, Montmartre today followed by a Night Photography tour, from which we've just returned. Tomorrow is Notre Dame and Musee Rodin, then it's back to London on Wednesday. We are exhausted, but have been having a ball. Only two downers so far. Managed to get my pocket picked on the Metro train, despite taking precautions. Fortunately, they only got my ready use cash (about $100). Second (and by far the greater tragedy) was allowing the Admiral to choose the restaurant that night. Neither of us speak French and she unwittingly (or so she says) managed to take us to a vegan restaurant of all things! She is still laughing about it..........I'm not!!! When I say that I am a carnivore, I'm being polite about it! Fortunately, some of the food we've had since has restored my gastronomic balance. The Admiral has had restaurant choosing rights suspended until further notice. If it doesn't bleed, it's not going on my plate! Second Shipmodelling link - Photography tour was also about learning how to use the camera properly, so hopefully I'll be able to take better pics in the future, especially since we're doing more of these in both Florence and Venice later in the trip. I'll try not to turn this into a travel log, but if I can make any tenuous maritime / ship modelling links, I might just drop in a line or two - assuming I can find the time and energy. At the rate were going that's looking more likely NOT to be the case!
  4. Hi Bob, I just followed Sjors in, out of idle curiosity just to see what he'd do next. I'll grab some popcorn and pull up a seat next to Sjors, just to make sure he behaves himself. This should be a very interesting build to follow.
  5. Glad to hear you're feeling better Sjors, but shame about the w#%k thing!!!! Looking forward to seeing the new shrouds and ratlines.
  6. A belated Happy Birthday Kevin. I'll be dropping off your present with Mobbsie next weekend. Nice work on the Mizzen. The ship is looking great.
  7. Very nicely done all round Danny. And another great tutorial to boot!
  8. Hi Augie, Nice to see you thinking ahead on how to improve the kit blocks. When I made my block tumblers, I made three of them with different grits (180, 400 & 600). I find that spinning the blocks for three minutes each in the coarser two and five minutes in the finest one, produces a really nice finish without having any disappear in a pile of sawdust. You could try using your existing device as a template for making some more canister bodies. Either PVC plumbing pipe, or cardboard mailing tubes are a good starting point for this. Of course, you could always simply replace your kit blocks with some from Chuck instead.........................just sayin'. (Sent from Winchester, UK)
  9. Nicely done Danny, Shane about the beam but as Sherry said, your past repairs/re-dos suggest only good things ahead.
  10. Nicely done Sherry. Aren't these little diversions a nice distraction from getting on with some of the more tedious work? Now, as Augie said, get back to work!
  11. Hi Timmo, Your knowledge and mastery with paint is exceptional - you show us just what is possible. Your description makes it sound so simple, where I'm quite sure the reality is far from it - at least for we lesser mortals! I love what you have done with the stern decoration - it looks so much better than the kit suggested colour scheme. I always look forward to your updates, because there is so much to learn here about an aspect of our hobby that is not often covered in other logs. Thanks for sharing your thinking and approach, as well as the end results.
  12. Great job Aldo, looking very sweet! Re the gunports - be thankful then that it's not a 100 gun ship!
  13. Aha! Made it just in time for the front row. Pass the popcorn please Sjors - and no flash photography allowed here! Looking forward to the ride Augie.
  14. Happy Birthday Len! I hope you are spoiled with lots of Ship modelling presents.
  15. Okay, I know I should be packing as we leave first thing on Monday morning, but........ I still had the tools set up, so I ran another "production run" of the 3/16" (4.75mm) blocks, experimenting a bit more with the sheave hole placement. Here's the result...... I think these are just about "export" quality, although there are a couple that need to be weeded in the QC process (one right near the centre front for example). Alright, that's me done in the shipyard until early October. I will no doubt drop in on a few of your logs over the next month, and I may even post the odd "tourist" pic.
  16. Great to see her in her final home port Augie. Like the others, I have enjoyed the ride and learned a few things along the way, as well as having a LOT of laughs. I look forward to joining the gallery on your Confed build. .....and I note that we exceeded the "100-page" target by more than 10%. I guess that makes us collectively a bunch of over-achievers!
  17. As my wife would say if I pulled that one Sjors, "Nice try, no banana!"
  18. While you're at it, would you pay Robbyn's Internet bill too please?
  19. Glad to hear that both you and your Internet are back! If you have a repeat attack from the Pneumonia, step outside then come in again.........hey, it works for computers! :P
  20. Mobbsie, If I can remember to pack it, I'll bring you some extra Tulle next week - you might be able to pass some on to Kevin (I've no idea of the distance between you, but I'm sure the Royal Mail could help). As for your catheads sheaves, given your lack of tools, I can only suggest drilling a series of holes (carefully aligned), and then clean up the slots using an Exacto blade (you can get "chisel" blades for the Exacto, in two sizes if memory serves me correctly). Two sleeps to go..........
  21. Wow! Wow! Wow! and Wow! again. I don't know what else to say. Your work is just exquisite.
