  1. Thank you all for the likes and the comments! I have channels on the port side! The rest are painted and almost ready to install. I am pinning them to the hull. This means that I am using steel pins (sewing pins) to reinforce the glue so the channels do not buckle under the stress of rigging.
  2. It’s a matter of personal taste. I like carving. I didn’t know that I did until I tried it. Many people like sculpting. I have heard that sculpey is really easy to work and has minimal shrinkage when baking. I have the tools and the sculpey, but I haven’t tried using them. I am going to try it out on my next model. Either way, at worst you are only out a little bit of time and material if the first attempt doesn’t come out right. If you’ve never tried carving, I would encourage using the learn to carve tutorial here. It helped me tremendously.
  3. Your Granado is coming along nicely! I’m sorry to hear about your Christmas plans, but it is good to hear that you and yours are safe.
  4. Welcome! Sounds like an awesome project!
  5. Welcome!
  6. I have channels with eyebolts. I made the eyebolts from annealed steel wire.
  7. Welcome!
  8. Welcome!
  9. Port side channels are cut out: Time to make some eyebolts and do some painting.
  10. Thank you everyone for all the likes! I’m glad you like the build! I finished cutting out the starboard channels. I still need to drill holes for the eyebolts and they all need painted prior to installation, but I have them sitting in their approximate spots so I can check fit and that they won’t interfere with the gunports. They will be pinned in place, in addition to being glued, for strength.
  11. Monfeld’s book is my go-to reference book. I’m on my third copy of it.
  12. Welcome and well done!
  13. Christian, I’ve been watching this build for a while. You have done an amazing job with it. Well done on the ships boats. I will be making a set for Victory in the near future, hopefully I will do as well. The Confederacy is a neat subject for a model. I have both the Chapelle and the Hahn plans for it.
  14. Thank you for the information. I still have over 150 blades to go through with my last set of scalpel blades, but I threw some supatool blades and a handle in my wish list for when I run low.
  15. I cut out my first two channels (1/16” basswood) and dry fitted them.
