I think back to all the things my admiral and I did together, when we owned our house....those are fond memories. cripes I remember the all-nighters I pulled..........fueled by beer. the admiral would down out on me around midnight.....but I didn't mind. we did the hard stuff during the day......and painting all night! we enjoyed it! I hate being a renter........so much I want to do, but the place is not mine to do all this. we hope to get our own place one of these days.....we were happier that way we did things the way we wanted them to be, and we reveled in our accomplishments. if we ever did what we wanted to do.............she is now disabled..........I would more or less be on my own, but I would be happy.......I'd be doing it for her.......even though I'm not the spring chicken I used to be take pride, my friend...........and now your back to your leisure, and back where you love to be............it's a wonderful feeling though......isn't it?- 1,279 replies

sorry to hear of your issues........I wish you well and a speedy resolve. the world around us has changed so much.....it's gotten to the point, that they want everything done yesterday. I used to enjoy working..........today, I can't wait to retire! take care of yourself and get better....I'll be thinking of you good to see some progress.......the framing looks really good!

all in one piece would be the way to go, since they start out like that when loaded in the tubes. you would need to scribe a groove line around the main body of the mine, to show separation between the mine and the base. but what am I thinking........of course you will! as with all you've done so far..........it'll be interesting to see where you'll with them

you could use 0.7 thin strips for the planking.........you might even be able to get 1/64 flat stock for the platform. you wouldn't have to do deep notches for the posts...just enough so you wouldn't see any gaps. if you have trouble finding thin strip planking, you can always cut your own. just a thought, my friend

I had a look into the Hobby Lobby angle..........even took a trip into C.W. Moore's........that's a negatory, good buddy. I think I'll be sending a request in to Corel to see if they can help me out. perhaps I'll send that Hello Kitty picture you did to them.........maybe they'll do it out of pity!

you know Wayne......looking at the frame again........if your going to add planking to the inner bulwarks, you could get away with doing some scratch work, and make a platform for the deck. they do have 1/32 thick flat stock you can use for it. this would solve your dilemma and you could plot any pattern you wanted

great that your overcoming these problems........actually, a good many of these kits have these small fo-pahs. it's all in how you overcome them, that makes a build great. your doing a swell job!

thank you David, Jason, Piet, and Marcus. with the invent of the deck inlay, I know this is extreme. the two factors that I looked at was the longevity of the adhesion of the inlay, and those seams in the deck sections. doing them in this way, insures defeating both of these problems. I wish I could continue, but it seems I can't escape automotive troubles. I'm still not out of the woods yet......but I shouldn't complain..........I'm still building, but at a more "metallic" level thanks for the good word gentlemen........and thanks to all of you for the likes!

thanks John, Joe, Patrick, and Augie........if this did anything.......it makes for life-like seamless decks. you can see just how flat this lacquer is........with how much I use flat paints.......I still can't believe how 'dead' it is. it's pretty awesome I have done 5 or 6 of these Revell series kits, and the sectioned deck always was a pain to me. this time..............I rule! to me, this was quite a process.....but, it was fun and I got to see what will and won't work. thanks for all the good comments, and for the likes. hope to have another update real soon!

AWESOME!!! with your first post.....it made me wonder....."why, is Tina Turner coming?" I do apologize Steve....I saw your post, and since this is J's log, I didn't want to add to it.........but it seems that J is more computer savvy than I thought!!! all kidding aside........ahhhhhhhh, no. I think I'll wait and see if I can find something more 'in line' with the period thanx!

there are many ships that we know little or nothing about. the challenges that a modeler faces, in trying to uncover fact and history, is a huge task. this is the major form of enjoyment in this medium we play in. our admirals think we're nuts........{but that's another story} the models we see, are the flesh made of many volumes, written from the past. time moves on.........the past getting cloudier and the pages yellow, but is still there to glean and ponder. the model is old........but is looked on by many new minds...and new questions are asked......more than the model can supply. even the books, suspended by time, can only answer so many, before it becomes common knowledge and hearsay. the model is but a window of the volume and mind.......made flesh for the ocular view...........like the volume, it suggest ideas and thoughts of what could have been, what might have been, and what was. as for the model of today, we see it as a work of beauty, craft, and vision. it suggests the what is......and most importantly, what if. no to worry dear friends.......the model of today will soon become the model past.........and it will be looked at by many more new minds. as time is the thief......the old model is now gone, and all that remains, are snapshots in a drawer or album. keep on thinking free

thanks Keith.........yes, there's going to be something on the galley floor. I covered it so it wouldn't get any lacquer on it. it was so nice to set the deck in and not worry about it breaking off.......or worse with the spar deck in place, it's very hard to see the bulwarks. you have to look at an extreme angle......I may not even thicken the walls in there.......not sure yet. thanks for the good word, glad you like it

thanks for the good word Evan....I have the decks sealed and in place. I'm pleased with the way they look. that's what I'm saying.......I find it hard to doubt what your saying. are there any plans for her in existence from that time period? I've been looking around since this came up........I promise you.......if I find anything, I'll let you know the United States and the Connie were similar in many ways.......I would suspect that the President was as well, even though she was a tad smaller in girth. as I said......build her, my friend..........I think she's gonna look every bit as sweet have fun with your build, and I'm gonna keep watching.

.........meanwhile, back at the table...... with the decks back in the house.........it's time to see what I have been wanting to see. I installed the gun deck back into the hull.. then the spar deck was set in place... I wanted to get a shot of the inside.......trying to find the right angle.......this was the best I was going to see. I really like the way this turned out........the spar deck still has some slight traces of the white......but I think this is the best I'm going to get it, without redoing it. I think once fittings and structures are set in place, it will look fine.

I was just about ready.........got pulled away a couple of times......but I manged to git 'er done! the splints along the edges of the deck were removed, so it could get a good sanding. the ripples are almost non-existent! then, the gun deck got sanded. I still need to use a sanding stick in between the holds. during the process......I started to think about the galley floor. it's pretty flimsy and thought about stiffening it up. I cut some diagonal pieces and glued them under neath.......ain't too flimsy now! while this was drying.......I sanded the spar deck again and touched up the holds and got rid of that white stuff. I forgot to mention......the archive pen died! guess this task was just too much for her I tried to keep her alive, with a few India Ink transfusions......but to no avail. I had to do the last couple of planks with a magic marker........it worked.......I just had to move real quick with it .....and then, it was out to the garage......... it started with the spar deck........getting a coat of lacquer ....and then, it was the gun deck's turn....... now we wait.........and see what happens

come on now........haven't you rolled a snowball before? take a snowball and roll it in the snow........before you know it, it's this great big huge thing! modeling is pretty much like that........you start out with this one idea.......and pretty soon, you have this huge model! sweet deal at the back of the tower.......good that you found the wheels! while you have the black out......perhaps a bit more on the handrail...just to even it up. .........or is that the camera angle? she looks terrific Piet!
