When he'd get off track, he'd restart his whole lecture from the beginning. Put him on an active battlefield and he became a tactical tiger. The Rebs had so-so leadership of the Army of Northern Virginia until Jackson and Lee percolated up to the top spots, then they became a juggernaut. The North was saddled with any number of political hacks in upper leadership, until Meade. But Meade was a very reluctant commander and got lucky at Gettysburg. His pursuit of Lee retreating south was miserable, although the worn out Army of the Potomac and some execrable weather didn't help. His reliance on Kilpatrick aka "Kil-cavalry" was totally misplaced. When Grant came east, he put some backbone into Meade, but there was too much politics in the leadership. Old Collingwood Posted June 17, 2021 Author Share #1058 Posted June 17, 2021 (edited) Good day all, I might have a go at the flag latter - I have been reading up on how to attach/fold/shape flags by touching up the inside edges/outer lip with the same piant as the outside, then gluing a piece of foil leaving an edge around it with PVA then more PVA over both sides - then close it up around the flag staff, then applying PVA on the outer sides and fold it down to get the right folds/shape. I did this for a ship model that I built and was pleased with the results. Use very thin paler such as rice paper. Tape it down to a smooth surface. With a sharp pencil draw the border between the different colors. Paint the different colors with acrylic paints. Turn the paper over and repeat the process. After fastening the flag to the flag pole, use a wet brush to tease it into your desired shape. The French tricolor should be easy to paint. The gold lettering can be impressionistic. But after gluing it and shaping it I touched up some of the marks and gave the whole flags edge a re paint in Yellow Ocre. So this is the finished flag - but first how the flag starts (not the same regimant as is on my figure) Next post will show the completed figure with his backpack and details etc. OC.
