According to Squadron and to most of the articles that I read, the most suitable glue to be used is the Micro Kristal Klear.

Yep I've read the same things, but the best results I achieved was with Formula 560, a specific glue for micro thin canopies works very well on the kit canopies as well... It usually take one application as it shrinks to completely invisible level and the bond is something to believe.... Not that Micro clear won't work cause it does, it's just that there are other products that work even better in some circumstances...

This is one of them...

Dear all of you who are following this build, I would like to inform you that my build is momentarily on hold, because:

- in the last period, I am working on my ship build, although I don't have anything interesting to post yet;

- with my retirement, I resumed an old hobby of mine which is drawing and painting, see below;

- I am going to drive a long trip down to Italy to visit roots and that will keep me away from my hobby desk for several weeks.

About the Mosquito, the installation of the Squadron vac-formed canopy is concluded and the result is quite ok, I will show you that as soon as I will have some progress, when I am back.

About the other hobby, let me post here two exercises of mine that perhaps should please at least Chris, @ccoyle, seen the quote he inserted in the footer of his signature. These are drawings made by pencil and that I copied from pictures of the actors that I downloaded from internet.

Yes, I loved these western movies, they were packed with these cold-humor lines and situations. I don't know whether they would be considered acceptable nowadays. Anyway I liked them a lot. Great actors, great scripts, great director and above all memorable music. If you like it, tries the following:

Dear all,

after long time, I am back here resuming my halted Mosquito build. Before the interruption, I had to replace the kit plastic canopy by a vacuum-formed one by Squadron. After gluing it, I masked the transparent panes with Tamiya tape. This was quite a chore because of the soft details molded on the canopy which don't provide a well defined guide for the scalpel blade.

IMG_0495_res.thumb.jpg.1ba4f25ff881190402616fd199b68d93.jpg

After sealing the edges of the tapes with a clear coat, I sprayed the interior green on the canopy. This allowed me to check also the aspect of the bonding line, which resulted acceptable.

IMG_0496_res.thumb.jpg.9f7f1252e45c61cb7050ee90a00011c7.jpg

At the same time, I also sprayed the final coats on the assembled landing gears, as shown above. After a clear coat, I added some weathering by brushing on some Tamiya panel accent black and brown liners:

IMG_0498_res.thumb.jpg.b9e1340b3bcc8d93b106ec6083669628.jpg

The complex structure of the gears where quite well rendered by Tamiya and I just added some tubing to it. I checked the gear posed inside the bay of the nacelle and it looks quite cool:

IMG_0499_res.thumb.jpg.3663d6d82e56f621b8084d7c2e84c158.jpg

That's all for now, the assembling of the main parts of the aeroplane will follow.

Best regards,

Dan

Hi, just a small update of my build. I assembled the main airframe parts together with no significant issues and the elegant lines of this aircraft eventually emerged. In preparation of painting, I coated everything with a light layer of Mr. Surfacer 1500.

IMG_0507_res.thumb.jpg.47ebb7291cf1ee565cde21d389559b0c.jpg

I started with painting the lower surfaces. In advance of the final RAF Sky color, to break its uniformity, I applied random mottles of white and dark gray:

The actual Sky color will follow.

Dan

Hi gents,

I started with spraying some colors. The lower surfaces had to be Sky color, hence I prepared a mix with Tamiya acrylics of 80% XF21 (Sky) and 20% XF2 (white) and sprayed first two diluted coats on them.

IMG_0510_res.thumb.jpg.00be5230fe0dc62827d31d57cab37992.jpg

IMG_0511_res.thumb.jpg.9faff54592462ad39778cf4d450bc8a6.jpg

Then, after a wet sanding with 1000 grit, I applied some mottles and strakes of pure XF21 and some preliminary Tamiya black panel liner along the main junctions:

IMG_0512_res.thumb.jpg.c30a94f4f7a3ea0f3d9c2fdb07000c44.jpg

After that, I continued to spray the sky mix until I saturated enough the color but trying to keep some of the pre-shadow work visible.

IMG_0514_res.thumb.jpg.7738ac05df5ed928cec361ad960b5176.jpg

I think I am stopping here, also considering that the following clear coats will tend to reduce the difference between shades. The upper camouflage color will follow next.

Thanks for following and best regards,

Dan

I love the paint, shading, and weathering effects you have applied here, Dan.

Hi all,

thanks for the comments and the many 'like's which I appreciated. It is now the time for painting the upper surfaces. Since I would like to depict one the Coastal Command aircraft, I decided that I needed a uniform Extra Dark Sea Grey (EDSG) livery. Actually, the adjective 'uniform' might seem not very appropriate because these machine underwent a noticeable wear. In addition, the EDSG was applied in most cases on top of the grey-green RAF standard camouflage and in some pictures the underlaying camouflage can be seen through the EDSG layer. I decided to render this effect on the upper surfaces and I applied to this end initially a coat of Dark Sea Grey doped with some white parts and then a fake camouflage scheme with a darker grey along with some random mottling. After having wet sanded with a fine 1000 grit, this was what I obtained:

IMG_0516_res.thumb.jpg.3c0ea15edad2d6e5bf4dfc5528b2e74b.jpg

Then I started to apply subsequent EDSG layers also doped with some white to replicate some fading of the paint. After few layers, I stopped at this stage:

IMG_0517_res.thumb.jpg.25fa6fd23032ee24921368f41bcb20f6.jpg

After that, I removed the extensive masking on the other surfaces.

After having corrected same minor blemishes, I will coat everything with Tamiya Clear paint to prepare for the oil colors and decals.

Thanks for following and best regards,

Dan

Hi all,

I went along with finishing the paintwork. As anticipated in my last post, after a light wet sanding with 3000 grit, I coated the model with Tamiya clear to prepare it for the decals. Then decals were applied and I must say that the feared Tamiya decals, which were dated 1998, behaved quite well. After another light wet sanding with 6000 grit, I applied a final clear coat which purpose is to seal the decal edges to avoid that the following oil colors can seep underneath them. This is the result so far:

IMG_0524_res.thumb.jpg.a53d1ac0f9caac014c258da4f19b8f48.jpg

IMG_0525_res.thumb.jpg.0cbabcadde0134dbbac2404add361550.jpg

IMG_0526_res.thumb.jpg.b9cc0a7afed15ebd1add335fee812faa.jpg

By wet sanding I obtained quite smooth a finish and removed some roughness that was present in areas close to concave corners. The lower surfaces received the same treatment although this version doesn't display many decals on this side:

IMG_0523_res.thumb.jpg.abf87127ffda35c8c0a36b098590d5de.jpg

Next, I will let the paint to cure for at least a day and then I will apply some oil colors to depict some fluid spillages and trails.

Best regards,

Dan
