looking good Mark........well,  at least if there are stairwells,  they will appear planked at the bottom  ;)     very hard to go against admiral's orders.....not unless you want to get keelhauled.    she'll have to come out of the jig soon anyway..........unless you plan on doing the outer planking fixed in place.

Thanks everyone.

Sam, she'll come off probably after this deck is done.  I fear waiting until the forecastle and quarter deck are done will risk some damage.  I have a work cradle designed but not built.   Having said that... there's really nothing stopping me at this point from taking it off now.   Must rethink and be logical and rational...

Denis,

There's 2 ladders (one officer and one crew) that are under the quarterdeck.   One open but under the boat on the gundeck and another under the forecastle.  There there's he two from the quaterdeck/gangways to the gundeck.   The ol' gundeck is going to be a busy place soon.

The best laid plans of mice and men... an Admiralty meeting.  We discussed progress and plans then "if I can't see it, why do it?  You'll save a couple of months, right?".   "Err.. yes.  But I want to do it because it's there.  I'll know it."  Well, so much for argument.  It's her ship and I'll do it.

Lol, boy are we cut from the same cloth! She's right, they usually are ;). Beautiful work Mark!

Question; How tight does the framework sit in that jig and at what point do you to remove it?

Thanks for looking in, the comments and the "likes".

As this is being written, waterways are going in and the center deck, carlings for the hatchways, and the center thickstuff areas are being marked out.  Still thinking of pre-cutting the planking on the Deathstar instead of shaping each plank by hand.

Micheal,

I want her out, but have very mixed feelings with a fear that I'll break something while still working on the hull.    I think I need to suck it up and do it after this deck.   :)

Bill,

It's a pretty tight fit but it's also glued with PVA into the frame.   I'll be following Hahn's lead on this and cutting the frames as close to the line of the top rails as possible and then sanding, filing, making a mess, etc. as needed.   I'm thinking it's easier to cut it free than try to undo 120 frame joints (60 frames times 2 futtocks holding it in place)  using isopropyl.

Indeed Bill, it's my laser cutter.   Greg the peg leg sailor (If my brain remembers correctly) started calling it the Deathstar and the name has stuck.  ;)

Edit: Yes, it was Greg after I speculated that maybe I could build a death star after upgrading the tube...

Minor update to show that all is not folly and folderol...   :)

The waterways are completely in and the beams marked with the centerline, the carling locations for hatches and mast partners, and also for the line where the center thick stuff will end and the normal deck planking begins.  (See the first photo).

I also ran a test using cutoffs from the beams, I made a "fixture" for lack of a better word.   I cut some 1/8" cherry and tacked it to the beams to see if there's any issues using the laser to cut the planking.  Nope... even leaves a nice black line for the caulking (see the last two photos) and with care, I should have some better planking than if I tried to sand/plane in the taper, etc. .  Also there's a bit of waterway to show the profile.

Tomorrow (or however long it takes) will be devoted to cutting and fitting the carlings.

Very nice clean work Mark; that mill jig looks quite useful for several purposes other than profiling also.

The waterways look good in-situ and the careful marking out and the plank profiles will add a lot of very nice detail.

Thanks for the comments and "likes".   I have the mast partners cut out and the wood ripped to size for the carlings.  Now start fitting them.   As side note, i'm only doing the carlings along the center for the hatches and to provide a landing place for the partners.  These are supposition based on cross-section and the way the French did their hatchways.

John,

The pantry, as such, is more like a closet, I think.  I'll have to do some more digging on this.    I'm planning on full masts and rigging.  Hahn cut down some of the yards as he didn't believe the NMM drawings were right.  Yet, the Le Venus had yards that size but later in the period.  But instead of rigging it like Le Venus, I've been advised that the rigging on Belle Poule would be more correct.

Thank you for following along on this adventure and for the comments and "likes"....

Update weekend...

I've added the carlings where there will be a hatchway or ladderway.  Since the French laid their planks and then put the coamings ontop of the deck planking, the carlings will seen.   I've also added the mast partners, the capstan partner (I think that's the right term) and have started making bits and pieces while sorting out the deck planking.   The officer's ladder from the gundeck to the lower deck can be seen laying on the beams, the crew's ladders are in work and both fit in between the main mast partner and the oven on the lower deck.    I was 1/16th of an inch off on the making of the various deck pieces and planning the centerline planking (thick stuff).  It should be 3/32" of an inch instead of the 1/8" I mentioned previously... a miscalculation on my part.  I left the mizzen mast partner at the thicker size to better fit the pantry around it.

Pictures show things ready for the next step.  The second picture is just a reference shot with dummy masts and the capstan in place to get an idea of things...

What's a mere 4" on your scale ... a measly 1/8". Well you have always been a big spender, haven't you now ... It is looking great, I see the Deathstar hasn't passed by the timbers yet. Better to find out the mistake than not at all. At least you can correct it from hereon. As long as you make the mistakes, we do not have to make them, although, we still might ;)
