  1. Alright then! Now that Mark has finally arrived with the popcorn and drinks, I'll take a seat and follow this one too. Looks to be an interesting build Vivian. I like your ideas for improving her. I did wonder if the new windows were a little too large, but hey, you're the Captain, it's your choice!
  2. Alex, I remember following your beautiful build before the "great MSW crash", but it has taken me a year to find her again. What a beauty she is too! I just love the way you explain your methods - so many wonderful ideas, tips and tricks. I'm in for the long haul now - can't wait to see further updates.
  3. That's some very clever modifications there Nigel. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
  4. Thanks in advance Joe. I know that your tutorial will be a most welcome addition to the knowledge base.
  5. I'd certainly be interested Joe. This is one area I have yet to explore.
  6. Darn it Remco, now I have to clean a large pile of drool off my iPad!
  7. Your metal work is both cleverly thought out and expertly executed Danny.
  8. Thanks for that link QA - most helpful - and also for your thoughts and the ratios of various components. That all helps to make sense of it all.
  9. Rob, My guess (and it is only a guess), would be that sellers provide overall dimensions - in this case, length and width.
  10. I have only the flimsiest grasp of how the metric vs "non=metric" notation systems work for taps and dies. I get that the notation measures slightly different things, but.......... A search of the internet brings up all sorts of interesting information, but none that I've been able to find so far seem to give a very basic "equivalence" if you wish. For example, say you wish to find out what the closest metric size might be for a given "non-metric" size (e.g. 4-40, or 2-56 etc). Does anyone know of such a simple comparison chart? It sounds too easy, but clearly it isn't.........
  11. Very nice Rob. Love your "jig" for working off the model.
  12. If it really is copper you are wanting to blacken, then use Liver of Sulfur (LOS). Not exactly a household product but easily obtainable online. http://www.polymerclay.com.au/xlgel1liverofsulphurextendedlifegel1oz-p-13276.html LOS has the advantage of being able to be used 'in situ' on the model without affecting the surrounding wood - just wash off the timber. EdT uses this almost exclusively on his Naiad model.
  13. That's a nice looking set of balusters Sherry. Love the soccer net approach!
  14. Jimmie, The lower deck guns are "false" guns. They are simply a barrel with a "tang" on the end. Behind the gunports will be a strip or block of wood. A hole is drilled in this to accept the tang of the gun. A jig is usually made and used to ensure the hole is centred in the gun port. Hope that answers your question.
  15. Great results Mike - she's a real beauty.
  16. This looks like an interesting build to follow Nigel - think I'll pull up a seat too! Move over Sjors, and pass the popcorn please.
  17. 'Bout time you got here with the popcorn Sjors! I've saved some room for you next to me.
