I recall seeing some at Hobby Lobby as well. LED is making quite a showing in the Christmas light dept this year. I would need to see if they can be adapted to fit the transformer outfit I bought........it's still not too late, in the event that I'll need to change anything. I have to go there anyway........I'll take a look thanks Bob!

I've had moments like that........save something for so long, then get tired of it hanging around, and throw it away. then to have the need appear about a month later. truly a bummer moment I notice the clearance between the two gears.......the alignment of the shafts look a bit off.. is that a camera or dry fit thing? to shim the engine would be a hard thing to do, but you may be able to modify the well that the opposing shaft fits into. I hope I'm wrong......or I'm just seeing an adjustment that you know you'll have to do very nice progress

thanks Dragzz...it will look better when I get it finished

thanks Kevin, I'm glad to hear that your enjoying the build. though a bit off the beaten path, I hope to create subjects that could be conceived as real boats. I'm trying to get as much done before the year's end........they'll be done for the 2015 holiday season BTW.......your Vic looks sweet as your avatar

thanks Adam....the bad thing is, is that I can only use those size bulbs. this set up knocks it down to 12 V......can't use LED........I have lights, but no sockets for them. I also found that the outlet bar that I got is like solid state......hard to take it apart without damaging it. I need to look into it further. we're making another trip to Hobby Lobby this week. thanks for the good word thanks for the good word also Michael......no deadline. they won't be finished this year. my goal though, is to get both hulls painted and set up for the deck fittings. THEN........let the deadline begin! I did get a giggle though........we picked up our tree at a lot that was set up behind the local Dairy Queen. after seeing what this guy had for a tree wrapping table.......I'm absolutely positive.......that anything I can envision, will come out looking stellar thanks Mobbsie........it won't be for a while yet. I hope your right......I'm flying by the seat of my pants thanks Omega....hope to have more soon "god bless ye merry modeler" {sounds like a 'shore leave' moment}

is there a time period for this type of tackle? I've not seen it on older ships. looks super Danny

Cutty Sark by NenadM
popeye the sailor replied to NenadM's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1851 - 1900
as we New Englanders say "don't be scat now!" to see the effort you've put into her...and where she is now, is truly amazing. I think you really need to show that "guy of self doubt" what the back wall of your closet looks like oh, and be sure to close the door when you leave- 4,152 replies

most actors are afraid of it happening to them......I guess it can happen to modelers too......I've been stereotyped not that it's a bad thing Dee Dee........the M&M Fun Ship is my best concept build so far. I'm hoping to surpass it, but I'm finding it to be an uphill battle. the admiral covets that ship........I STILL can't put a finger on it! {not that I would ever change a thing to it}. it's still relatively safe....but one of these days, I need to make a case for it. I like that commercial too.......thanks! thanks Nenad for the good word! got a bit more to do on this one, but then I'll have to get a move on with the tree boat, and get that one up to speed

thanks Augie and Nenad......once I get the paint and accents on it, it should pass muster thanks also to all you fine folks who hit the like button.

while I was messing around with the Harbor build, I thought I'd flesh out another aspect of this build. I was thinking about the ice maker. first I thought of a grill along the bottom.......and two doors above it. then I thought about an access panel on the side. it now needs paint and brass detail......along with some fins in the grill, but this is how it will look.

I finished the framing on the front wall. now the objective here will be to get the wall sheeted and the side rails on. after sheeting the port side lower portion, the side rail was installed. then it was to continue sheeting the wall with the bits and pieces I have lying around. the starboard lower portion was put in place. then the starboard side rail was added. outside of the trimming around the door and windows, the wall is done.

she's looking super Augie! really nice work on the cannons I'd give you my advice.......but I don't think you'd want eight or so builds lying around. I will tell you though, that after four.......they tend to give up

hello Piet........had no idea you were starting another build. I must say, you've done a great job so far. I used the balsa when I did the Maine Lobster boat.........you did a much better job than I did I ended up planking it over.....and when I did the scratch build a while later. the other nice thing about the Midwest kits though, is that most, if not all of the instructions are 1:1 to the model. makes reusing them again easy I'll enjoy following along.......looks like a lot of fun!

yepper Bob.........you never know what I'll find in one of my scavenger hunts they had a complete set over at the local Home Depot, but they were way out of scale {their trees were pitiful too!}. we found one in a tree lot behind Dairy Queen......a stone's throw from our house. I was impressed with the quality. my keyboard had a bad case of sticking keys and my mouse lost the ability to scroll. happy to report that I have a brand new 'matching' pair..........no more sticking 'J's' Sjors

when I had the youngsters, I set up a 'berthing shelf'.......up high. when I was finished working on my build, I would clean up the table and put it up there. of course, I was building them on the dinning room table at the time times have changed.......kids are grown, and I have my own tables........I am relaxed looks like slim pick'ins for any salvage operation..........sad to say, but it looks like a Viking funeral is in order. very sorry to see it my friend

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
