while I was messing around with the Harbor build, I thought I'd flesh out another aspect of this build. I was thinking about the ice maker. first I thought of a grill along the bottom.......and two doors above it. then I thought about an access panel on the side. it now needs paint and brass detail......along with some fins in the grill, but this is how it will look.

I finished the framing on the front wall. now the objective here will be to get the wall sheeted and the side rails on. after sheeting the port side lower portion, the side rail was installed. then it was to continue sheeting the wall with the bits and pieces I have lying around. the starboard lower portion was put in place. then the starboard side rail was added. outside of the trimming around the door and windows, the wall is done.

she's looking super Augie! really nice work on the cannons I'd give you my advice.......but I don't think you'd want eight or so builds lying around. I will tell you though, that after four.......they tend to give up

hello Piet........had no idea you were starting another build. I must say, you've done a great job so far. I used the balsa when I did the Maine Lobster boat.........you did a much better job than I did I ended up planking it over.....and when I did the scratch build a while later. the other nice thing about the Midwest kits though, is that most, if not all of the instructions are 1:1 to the model. makes reusing them again easy I'll enjoy following along.......looks like a lot of fun!

yepper Bob.........you never know what I'll find in one of my scavenger hunts they had a complete set over at the local Home Depot, but they were way out of scale {their trees were pitiful too!}. we found one in a tree lot behind Dairy Queen......a stone's throw from our house. I was impressed with the quality. my keyboard had a bad case of sticking keys and my mouse lost the ability to scroll. happy to report that I have a brand new 'matching' pair..........no more sticking 'J's' Sjors

when I had the youngsters, I set up a 'berthing shelf'.......up high. when I was finished working on my build, I would clean up the table and put it up there. of course, I was building them on the dinning room table at the time times have changed.......kids are grown, and I have my own tables........I am relaxed looks like slim pick'ins for any salvage operation..........sad to say, but it looks like a Viking funeral is in order. very sorry to see it my friend

better late than never........I had made some progress a couple of days ago, and I wanted to add more before I showed it to you. I finished sanding the first set of bow rails, and installed them on the Jingle Belle. I made up a pair of side rails for her, but I can't do them at this time. I need to get the front wall of the warming room framed and sheeted. I still need to frame in the windows {they will be doubles}, and the door tread is already in place. they will be double doors. I have done more.......I'll try to get them up for you soon. tomorrow I need to get a new keyboard and mouse........everything seems to be breaking down all at once!

popeye the sailor replied to NenadM's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1851 - 1900
the more you've added, the better it looks super bit of work there Nenad. I've never used that method with saliva.......but I have used it to pick up small parts from the floor......when I dropped them nice tutorial for doing the decorations....it sounds so logical- 4,152 replies

looking very nice.......when you cap them off, are you going to go all the way around, or just the fronts? I just align the gun ports with the slots in the plate. since a very small portion of the plate will locate forward of the mast {if at all}, it makes the location a bit easier to discern.

the ship's boats will be the perfect break from all the tedious stuff. they won't look like that one though.......a bit more..rustic. of course, some might think your stalling do you plan to use the plug method? as I say when faced with repetitious steps.......thanks be to the sub assemblies and mini builds that starve the boredom!
-
for your first build, looks like you've done a great job. you've made good use of the blonde woods {unstained}, and I really like how your ship's boat came out to add new techniques to this build would be a detriment.........you've put way too much character in this build, to muddle it.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
