  1. Since it seems that Keith and Ed know much about Wayne's wood, can one of you post relevant info here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/384-where-to-buy-wood/
  2. Mark, Binnacles were removable. I think that part of the "clear for action" included removing it. You wouldn't want your navigation equipment shot up.
  3. oh.. goodie.. this weekend!!! <rubs hands together and gets HMS Visa ready><maniacal laughter><Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D-Minor rising in the background> Obligatory musical interlude: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho9rZjlsyYY
  4. What a great idea for a bell.... It looks super.
  5. Slog, Not Vietnam War then....she just looks familiar to me.
  6. Good luck, Monello. You've picked a rather large and complex model to start with. I'm pulling up a chair and looking forward to your build.
  7. Mick, Nice work. You might consider putting the pictures of your finished ships into the gallery area. As for POF building, if you need to get your feet wet, have a look at the Triton cross-section. It's a very good starter project and there's plenty of help if you have questions.
  8. I think certain newspapers and news networks would grab that one and blare it in 72 point type.
  9. MS kits are known for their quality instructions and their parts replacement policy. I've not built one but do a search in the Kit Logs section. I count 8 builds going on.
  10. Qoute: but the claim that it " ... INSPIRED THE FILM MASTER AND COMMANDER" is a tad over the top You have to love marketing types for that one.
  11. She looks good out of the building board. The wipe on poly looks perfect.
  12. Beware of the fish.. bring the moose home. After he/she gets done with the yard, there won't be any chores.... until the moose leaves, that is. Planking and painting are top-notch...
  13. Looking very good, Raymond. You don't have the rigging spiders???? If you did, you and Woody could sit back and watch them do the work.
  14. Congrats on getting a house!!! May it be filled with laughter, joy, and a pile of sawdust in the shipyard.
  15. Thomas, Have you looked here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/384-where-to-buy-wood/ Go down the list to the "rough lumber" area. Then also read the posts. There's a lot in to posts that haven't been added to the main list such as Rockler.
  16. Rear mounted? I didn't know there was such a thing. Alde, which way is the rotation of the chuck? I believe on the Sherline it should be such that it rotates the material into the top of the tool. From your picture, it should be clockwise. If the cutter were on the other side, it would be counter-clock wise. Is it possible that the tool holder/slide has been somehow installed backwards?
  17. I should add...some threads work better than others and as always test first as your milage may vary.
  18. I have on my Constellation and Wasa. Helps to get the "sag" right.
  19. A full quarter inch????? The did something weird. Are there any part numbers on the slide? If so, you might contact Sherline and see what they think.
  20. Jud, If you're using the 50-50 mix of white glue and water, a drop or two of liquid dish soap goes a long way toward helping penetration of the line. Even if the line has been beeswaxed.
  21. Sweet work on the planking, Nigel. I'm considering your method as an alternative to the darkened glue.
  22. Thanks for the comments and the "likes". I find having you guys (and lady ) looking over my shoulder helps on keeping things focused. NIgel, This issue isn't as severe as some other ones I've stumbled across . But since these plans were all done by hand, I expect some issues. Version 1.0, I used whatever sheet was handy for the ports and other measurements. I'm sticking to the framing drawing until this thing is planked, at least until it's totally framed out. I'll also use it for the deck beam placement as I've caught some mis-matches (or maybe they just seem to be mismatches?).
  23. Ok goodie.. there's a chair available.... <grabs chair> I'll wait patiently.
  24. Pops, Edge bending is probably the toughest thing to do. Some say it's doable, others say impossible. Part of the problem is the type of wood, the amount of bend vs the width and thickness. I might be better to just get some stock and cut the wood out and sand and fit for the curve.
  25. Update time... I needed a break from cutting out frames having done about half of them so far. So.... installed the first three frames, added spacers for strength and position, and cut the bridle port. The keel is just set into position as are the upper and lower sills for the port to help in squaring everything up. The bridle port is build up on the frame sides and the upper and lower sills rest on the "build up" with the middle frame being cut out for the port. Thankfully, it's the only one like this. The rest are cut into the frames. There's a conumdrum on the plans. The cut-away with the ports outlined is more "square" where as the framing plan shows the fore end of this port higher on the hull. I went with the framing plan. I hope I picked correctly.
