HMS EURYALUS by Matiz - FINISHED - scale 1:56

Recommended Posts

Thanks to all ☺️, the hinges are soldered with tin, therefore, soft soldering, I found a suitable tube, but I think I will redo them, as they are a bit big, the doors I made them as in reality, with uprights in which I practiced the mortises, the crossbars in which I made the tenons, the lower drafts, which fit into a groove, and the irons, wedged between the crossbars

The use of two slightly different shades of wood is brilliant as it shows off how well you did the joinery.  Did you use two different species of wood or pieces of the same species from different billets, or???    Thanks

It is nice seeing the hammock battens being made and secured in place.  Not a common sight!

Gorgeous work as always

Look at you two, showing off your fancy nautical terminology! Are the hammock battens the sawtooth things that look like they are for making a grating?

JD,  they are a pain in the neck to make and glue/pin into the side of the deck beams, but look great if well done.  If you leave off a few pieces of deck planking you can hang a few hammocks secured to the battens (and sleeping sailors) so they can be seen.  Lavery has about a page and a half of text and layouts of hammocks on pages 180-181 in The Arming and Fitting of English Ships of War.  One of the drawings of the  lower deck of HMS Bedford 1775 can be seen in low res on the RMG collections site as well.   https://www.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/rmgc-object-86584
