Syren Ship Model Company is moving its Factory .... TEMPORARY Closures of Online Store....Dates

Recommended Posts

Syren is moving its location...

Actually, we are finally selling the house and downsizing.   As an empty-nester its just too much house for us.  As any of you know who have gone through this, it is a very stressful and crazy process.  Our current house has 35 years of crap in it.   I am only just finalizing the final touches on the place  (putting lipstick on this pig) to list it.   That will be done over the next few days.   So I have closed the shop and store for a few days as I tie up loose ends for the photographer who is coming on Monday.   The house will be listed by next Wednesday.  We are staying in New Jersey and instead of the beach we are moving to the mountains...moving close to where the kids are of course.

I will reopen on Tuesday or Wednesday but maybe even sooner depending on how much help I get from the kids.  Not holding my breath on that one, LOL.

The view out my new workshop window.....I cant wait for this.

The view facing the new townhouse.....peace and quiet awaits.  No kids...lots of shop time.

Then the second stage which is far worse in my opinion.  Once the place sells, I will be packing up for the actual move to the new place.   The new shop is actually larger than my current and above ground with windows overlooking the mountains, golf courses and ski slopes.   A very nice shop indeed and I am looking forward to it.  I have no idea when that will happen or when the closings will be.  It will probably be towards the End of the year in December and the holidays.   So I will be closing up shop again when that happens.  Maybe for a week or so.  I have no idea.   Just packing up my shop will take days and then I have to set it all up again at the new place.  So please bear with me....I will try and make this as quick as possible.

The reason why I mention this is because all sorts of rumors start spreading that I might be going out of business.  That is the farthest thing from the truth.  Sales are as brisk as ever.  So if you hear that from some folks know that they are ill informed.  Wish me luck.

Chuck

Good luck on the move, Chuck!  The new place looks absolutely beautiful!  Looking forward to placing some Syren orders AFTER you get settled in the new location.  Hope all goes well in the transition!

Beautiful views, Chuck. Wherabouts, may I ask? I'm a North Jersey guy originally and worked all over the state. Good luck with the sale and move.

Its in Crystal Springs in Hardyston NJ.   Do you remember the old Class Action Park?   They built this resort/Townhouse community there.   Down the street from the Mountain Creek Ski Resort in Vernon.  They have six golf courses even though I dont really play golf, LOL.  I prefer the miniature variety.  Not my thing.   But that keeps it quiet.   I am getting ready for retirement you could say....before I am too old to put on a pair of skis but its not a retirement community.

My kids are all within 20 minutes to a 1/2 hour away.   Nothing but farms up there.   In contrast....No planes, trains, buses and traffic and people everywhere you look where I am now just 6 miles from NYC.  I may have to listen to sounds of traffic to get to sleep when I finally move.

Okay, I learned something today. Don't laugh, but until now I never really realized that there are mountains in New Jersey. Cute little mountains by California standards, but we'll give credit where it is due. Since I moved to South Carolina, I haven't been farther north than Charlotte, so much of the Eastern US remains mysterious, uncharted territory to me.

They are huge by NJ standards.....It takes almost an hour to leisurely hike to the top, LOL

Ok they are very big hills.

Yep! Know it well ! Right across the valley from the Old Playboy Club and Resort. They changed the name of the ski area it seems, I remember it as Vernon Valley / McAfee ski area, used to ski there when I was a stationed at Picatinny Arsenal.  Not far from my in-laws home. Admiral aand I used to drive right past it on way to visit them (route 94). Great area, Chuck! Heck of a lot more developed that I remember. Best of luck in the move.

Oh the Admiral says you should visit High Point for some nice hiking 🚶‍♂️ 😀

There are three major mountain ranges in NY, Catskills by me, Allegheny in western NY, and the Adirondacks across Northern NY. And some lesser ranges scattered about, Berkshires on Massachusetts border.  Come visit !

Wow, Chuck! What a huge change.

You may recall, my wife and I moved from Connecticut three years ago to Pennsylvania and after only 15 years it was an enormous undertaking; we also did this "downsizing" during the peak of the COVID plague. It's hard to imagine 30+ years of personal "stuff" let alone moving a vibrant business.

I wish you and yours a smooth transition to your new life in the rural, sylvan "country."

Two moving tips:

1. Get plenty of packing paper (Home Depot or Lowe's);

2. Mark every moving box with a big, fat black Sharpie where it goes: this makes unpacking and setting-up so much easier.

From your photos, you're moving your home and business to a beautiful part of New Jersey.

Bravo!

Chuck, I grew up in Lodi and went to college at Stevens in Hoboken. Spent a little time watching Holland America refurbish transports at the piers below school. And High Point is a whopping 1800' or so. A molehill relative to places like Grandfather Mountain (5800' or so) here in western NC. But the Appalachians are pretty old, compared to out west. Anyway, that's a beautiful area above Sparta. You'll love it.

Congratulations Chuck on your impending move.  You are moving to a beautiful location and I know that you and Patti will enjoy your new home.  Just the beauty of your new area will result in less stress than the city living.  Moving to a modern home will relieve you of the constant upkeep that you have in your current 100 year old home and give you more time to develop future products for the ship modeling community.

They may be "small" mountains now, but when they were formed 400 million years ago, they were taller than the Himalayas!

Chuck: I can confirm for you that they are very big hills not mountains but I imagine you are enjoying fall colours right now... While up here in the Yukon with our 10.000ft mountains we are under a foot of snow.. enjoy that amazing view of your hills.. 🙂
