  1. Beautifully done. I tend to mount my ships on pedestals over a mirror which shows up the planking etc better. Mike
  2. I've just caught up with this thread. What an outstanding example of lifeboat modelling. Mike
  3. If you want the ensign to hang more realistically, soak it in water until pliable, fold it into the position you want then put some rubber bands etc round it to hold the shape. once dry, the shape will be maintained. happy modelling, Mike
  4. Beautifully done. A small quibble, but the oars in the ship's boats are overscale. Mike
  5. Looking very good so far. Remember that the standing rigging was usually tarred to prevent rotting and appeared black, running rigging was left neutral. Mike
  6. "For finishing Mamoli suggests first layering on a coat of copper paint, then sanding it to let some of the green of the tiles come through, then coating it with green paint and wiping it with a cloth while still wet to achieve a verdigris finish....." Weird. Mike
  7. A little incongruent - a baby RIB hanging from the davits of a sloop! You would have thought an appropriate clinker dinghy/jolly boat could have been found. Model coming along nicely. Mike
  8. This is a superb build. The only niggle is that the ratlines look oversize - I tend to use black household cotton for mine. Mike
  9. Try Tamiya masking tape next time - it's the best I've come across to date. Looking very good otherwise. Matt below the waterlie and satin above would probably look best. Gloss finishes tend to make a model look 'toy like'. Most boats lose their high gloss finish once they've been afloat for a while. Mike
  10. This is beautiful - getting into the realms of being artistic (!). Mike
  11. Planking above the wale was carvel as shown in the 'Anatomy of the Ship' book on the cutter Alert. Best wishes, Mike
