  1. I installed the swivel guns and have started the gun carriages. I will paint the swivel guns when I get around to painting the other cannon barrels. Hannah only packed 4 carriage guns, which is a big change from the other ships I have been building lately. Once the carriages are assembled and painted, I will need to come up with a bunch of eyebolts.
  2. More work done on the guns: The swivels with the angle piece on the breech end are ready to install.
  3. 10 Swivel Guns And 4 Carriage Guns (with the 2 rejects in the background which will go in my bits box).
  4. Carriage gun number 3: Still not perfect, but much better than than the last two. I’ll take it.
  5. Thank you all very much for the comments and the likes! 10 swivel gun barrels: 10 brackets for the swivel guns: 4 x 4 lb gun carriages, some assembly required: Also, the last two 4 Lb Cannon Barrels are getting remade. I ain’t happy with ‘em and they ain’t up to my standards!
  6. I don’t really know much about 3D printing. I haven’t done anything with it. But I agree with the people above and say that 3D printed parts are probably going to be custom jobs and therefore not cheap. I took a look at kit No. 440 on EBay. It’s a neat little kit. The scale is smallish, but that means you have less actual detail to make and lot more impression of detail. On the upside, at that scale, the only tools you really need are a good no. 11 blade (I’d recommend Excel brand for a standard hobby knife or buying a scalpel) and maybe a coping or scroll saw. The only downside is that Wasa had a lot of carvings, which is also an upside because it would be a great learning project as long as you didn’t give up. Plus, most of the carvings are flat carvings and not fully 3D, which makes it a lot easier. There are a bunch of build logs here, where people have carved their own decorations for kits. Plus there are a fair number of people currently building the Wasa here. Check out their logs. One of the cool things about this hobby is that it is a great way to develop new and different skill sets. I personally enjoy making the carvings. That’s one of my favorite parts of building the model, that and rigging. It’s a great way to relax.
  7. We are all well. We’ve just been very busy lately. Hopefully you and yours have been doing well too.
  8. Looking good so far! I built this kit back in the ‘90s. It was the first wooden model that I ever built.
  9. Welcome! Model Shipways (Model Expo) sells the plans to the CW Morgan. They are $39.99. If that is a Model Shipways kit, they will also replace any parts for free.
  10. The first two swivel guns are carved. Due to the small size, I’m not carving the banding into them. I made these from a toothpick.
  11. The carriage guns are carved: They aren’t the best that I have made. The two that are more slender are the ones that are actually in scale. These are 4 lb guns at 1/72 scale, which means that they are tiny. I had a difficult time with them. Once they are painted and in place, the deformations won’t be as readily noticeable as they are now.
  12. The ship’s boat is hanging from davits off the stern. It is rigged to cleats that I mounted to the railing. I added the cradle pieces for the ship’s boat to my bits box.
  13. Due to some minor weight and balance issues, Hannah is now permanently mounted to her base: I am using Model Shipways blocks for this build (I can make my own, but I have a bits box full of them).
  14. The Wasa has a lot of decorations. I would like to build one eventually. It is on my bucket list. I carved my figureheads and decorations for my last two models with a no. 11 scalpel. Some like to use a dremel for carving. Since it sounds like you are on your own for the decorations anyways, sculpey works very well for sculpting decorations. That’s actually something that I would like to learn to do. The intro to carving group here is a wonderful tutorial and a great way to learn. That is how I learned (and I am still learning). Realistically speaking, it sounds difficult, and it looks intimidating, but the hardest part about it is just deciding to try. You should make a build log. Ask lots of questions. The people on this forum are awesome. They have helped me immensely.
  15. Thank you very much! It is good to be back! One modded boat with davits: Three crew members: My carving skills aren’t as good as some of the other members, I know this. However, there is only one way to get better. Fortunately, I am very stubborn.
  16. Thank you all very much for the comments and the likes! I finally got time to work on my model. I just realized that if I put my ship’s boat in, as demonstrated in the painting I was using as a reference, I won’t have room for the two aft cannons. Therefore, I believe that I will make davits and hang it off the stern!
  17. Guns make good ballast according to a lot of period fiction. Which would make sense. The Model Shipways Sultana would make a good colonial era smuggler, too.
