  1. I think many of us have run into some problems with the wood supplied in kits ..... particularly the basswood. I think it's fair to say most of it will 'work' with some added effort and it probably keeps the cost of the kit within reason. I know I'll be looking to Hobbymill for some planks on my next one.
  2. I'll miss Frank. Hopefully the new fellow will follow in his footsteps.
  3. Just latched on to your log and I must say this is one outstanding build. Your patience is clearing showing through. And this is your first build? I may as well hang it up !!!! I just knew that Egyptian Wolf was calling me
  4. You can just barely see a tint on the deck. Before you do anything, make yourself up some sample deck strips so you can try out what you plan to do. You don't want to chance ruining the whole deck. You might try a light sanding to see if that helps. I'm not sure about the bleach. A light stain like Minwax Light Oak (diluted with Natural perhaps 50/50) might give you what you want. Again, I can't encourage you enough to try out your complete finishing system on the sample first.
  5. Nice work Sherry. She's going to be outstanding. Have a great trip. We'll repel any potential boarders until your return
  6. Larry - I believe your assumption is correct. The alcohol may have temporarily softened (and even slightly redistributed) the underlying glue but once it evaporates the glue should be fine. As for building 2 ships ........ join the club
  7. He/she definitely looks very different from the sub-species we have here in North America. People's sentiments vary widely on these animals, as you know. But I admire what they represent. Thanks for the comment.
  8. Hearty congratulations on your promotion! One can never have too many stripes
  9. Thanks Gerty and Wolf. It's coming along well ---- but there are some true masterpieces here on MSW. I do like your avatar Wolf
  10. Thanks Aldo. I think you have essentially captured the spirit of all of us here on MSW who spend our time on these little replicas.......the satisfaction that the work provides.
  11. Yes, I believe the limit is about 30 likes/24 hours. I surmise the likes/friends aspects come from the social media world which I avoid like the plague. It does have it's uses though ---- heck, I even like Sjors
  12. You've been busy! Good luck with the move. We'll be here once you're settled and get the shipyard cranking again. Try not to eat too much seafood when you get there
  13. Thanks again to all. RON- you're just about set to herd the spiders on your Supply. I'm looking forward to it
  14. I'm really glad to hear that. Best of luck....... I want to follow this lady.
  15. Aw come on Robbyn. Turn key, cast off bow and stern lines and push throttle forward You're a biker gal!
  16. AHA! . Yes, there it is.......the infamous 'white dust'. How could I have missed THAT!!!!!!! Glad you clarified. Now, what we're really all waiting for is the big decision.........
  17. That certainly is one boatload of canon.......and more to come !!!!!! Nice work.
  18. Thanks to everyone for your continued interest. You're my collective mainstay. Popeye- do you notice how the completion of every major step 'adds a lot'? You spend weeks sometimes doing fiddly little things and then BAM, it all comes together at once. I think someone said it earlier......the rigging is the icing on the cake. I've struggled a lot with it making some dumb mistakes that had to be redone. Next one will be better....but I am happy with it. Wayne ----- You've mentioned Essex before. Is she your next challenge????? Might be a bunch of them starting soon
  19. Popeye, you have me sending you good thoughts as hard as I can. Hope they get there and kick Murphy's butt.
