Alex

I just finished reading your build log and all I can say is - was für ein unglaubliches Modell. The amount of detail that you put into things that will never be seen is just amazing. I can't believe that you made mortise and tenon joints for a panel when most people would just glue the pieces together. Your stove is a work of art. Thanks for sharing this journey with us and I look forward to watching you complete it.

Alan

PS. I have a very good friend who owns a machine manufacturing company not too far south of you in Ettlingen. I have visited his company many times in the course of my business and the last time he lent me his BMW M3 Touring for my wife and I to tour the Black Forest area and Neuschwanstein Castle.

Current build, Disar Models - Altsu Mendi Basque Tugboat. Kits on hand for next builds: Victory Models - Scottish Fishing Vessel Fifie: Vanguard Models - Zulu 'Lady Isabella': : Mantu Models - Trotamares Motor Schooner. Finished, Chris Craft Runabout.

Hi Alex. I have gone through your log at least 3 to 4 times and must say your building is as outstanding as the plans  your drawing up. I am really enjoying you Anson plans and have finally answer to some question that I have long sought for a answer. Thank you again. I only have a couple of question. Do you by chance have any construction photo's of how you made the scuppers you installed and what material they were made of? If the crew here want a outstanding set of plan's for a 64 gun ship, getting Alex plan is a outstanding investment. Thanks again Alex, look forward to your next update. Gary

Thank you all for warm words! Gary, the scuppers are made from cooper tube, they are also in two part. One inserted into deck and one into outboard... If I remember me correktly (some jears ago), I should have one or two unused scuppers in the box. I will make a Photo tomorrow and post it.

Regards

Alex

Alex,

Boy, have I got questions!

1. How do you get the lower jaw of those clothes pins to hold?

2. How do you get such uniformity of the timberheads?

3. How do you do that little curl at the end of the planksheer?

Help us poor buggers do better.

Tom

The clothes pegs question I can answer: they are sticking through the gun ports with the lower jaw.

Druxey,

You're saying that the timberhead tops need to be parallel to the waterline?

Tom

Hi Tom,

the tops of timberheads are parrallel to the sheer, as seem on framing plan here:

https://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/83769.html

they are extensions of frames and follow the tumblehome, also angled inwards.

No, Tom, the shaped moldings are parallel (when seen from the side) to the ship's sheer (the upward curve). Also, the timberheads 'lean in' according to the tumblehome at the top of the ship's side, so their tops are horizontal as seen from ahead or astern. Complex geometry, varying for each timberhead, that many modelers avoid - but not Alex!

Alex,

Beautiful work, as usual from you! I continue to be inspired by your craftsmanship, and also your methodical ways of fabricating things. I have recently worked out a version of your jig for making eyebolts. It works well. You are very ingenious!
