Jan, That finished up to be a stunning model. I hope you'll keep it somewhere safe as it's a masterpiece.

Kevin, Over here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/1520-timber-help-for-a-newcomer/ Cornwall was mentioned: http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/timber.html I don't know if they do bespoke timber or not.

Rick, It looks big enough that you could do some amazing detailing. Feel free to open a build log in the kit area. I think a lot of us would like to see her being built.

I'm not a lawyer so this info has been picked up over the years doing software, commercial photography and technical writing. Basically you are correct. You can play it at home or lend it to a neighbor but not charge admission. You can display or use extracts (fair use) in reviews and articles but somewhere the thin line of plagerism is waiting... You can sell the original DVD/CD but not copies of it. At least in the USA. Not sure that all countries have the same rules.

David, The others have offered excellent suggestions but I'd like to step backward and address the Mamoli Surprise. If it doesn't have a full length gundeck, consider a serious bash. You'll start with a kit and then scratchbuild your way out of it. I did the AL Constellation that way. Ended up with an almost one of a kind ship. (Almost as there's another builder scratchbuilding her ). There's another builder doing the same thing to the MS Constitution. Takes some thinking through to do and it would be a challenge. No matter which way you decide to go, have fun with it.

I'm just catching up with your Le Mirage, Sjors. She looks really great with all the guns and ornamentation.

Just catching up Augie... the yards are shaping up nicely. Blisters go with the territory... And for the next build, think about the darkside. You can build whatever you want. No need to find a kit that's been built a zillion times.. like Confed. <ducks><runs for cover> Seriously, the "one of" is one of the things that got me hooked on scratchbuilding.

Wow, for a bit there I thought you were going to try to make a working pump. I don't think we've seen the saucers added before on any build.

Piet, Looks like you're off to a great start towards a great finish. I know you'll do her well and have a fitting memorial to your father.

Hi Giorgio, Excellent work. I guess you'll be adding sheaves? By the way, I added the scale (1:24) to the title of your log. -
Ron, If you haven't put in the treenails into the limber boards, leave the holes and score a line from port to starboard to cross the middle of the hole. The limberboards were about 3 to 5 feet long with drainage holes. Any water that found it's way down there would then runoff through the holes and into the limber channel so it could be scavaged by the pumps. The boards were removable so the channels could be cleaned of debris.

mtaylor replied to dvm27's topic in How to use the MSW forum - **NO MODELING CONTENT**
Greg, It was done on the old MSW (pre-crash) so I don't see why it can't be done here. Come to think of it, I've seen several logs where that's happened and everyone has profited. -

Nice work Adam. I'm following along as I have the Hahn plans for her which I rescaled them to 1:64.

Beautiful Remco. Did you recess the faces by hand?

HMS Victory by Sven - FINISHED - 1:600 scale

Matt, While the rigging looked fantastic, you're the Captain. Heartbreaking to undo all that work, but I'm betting you'll be happier with the new thread. -
Gaetan, Good catch and also a thank you for showing how you are fixing it. And I'm in total agreement about the LED lighting. Great lights.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
