Ok it's time to paint the trucks.

Now we've seen Chuck painting them red but I also wanted to look at them in black.

Here you see the two test samples.

Now that I've seen them both ways I'm perplexed as to which way to do them.

Any thoughts?

Do them in red & black!  Heh..  I painted my trucks red, but then painted the outer circumference black as if they were iron banded.

Really it comes down to whatever you like the most appearance wise.

Thanks all for the input. I like the idea of the black band but if that’s not accurate

I’ve scrapped that idea.

Chuck I could have put money on your answer because I remember when you

had to make the same decision.

I’m leaning hard towards red so I’ll do up some that way and place them on

deck alongside some black ones and see what slaps me upside the head!

Thanks again. :)

I've set them aside and have to finish some outboard and inboard work before I can place them.

Hi All,

I can't believe how long it's been since my last post. I am alive and working just really slowly.

Lets see since my last post I’ve finished and installed the catheads.

IMG_2423.thumb.JPG.0d1c16c749ac55324f130a8351d68af6.JPG

I’ve also made the backstay plates and the chain plates from brass flat stock.

The deadeyes were made from Syren Ship Model Company.

IMG_2425.thumb.JPG.4ef6d86c0e696441b6127fb08e9d5ae8.JPG

I also made the pin rails and ladders. Making the ladders I used the same method used on the Confederacy. I cut horizontal lines for the treads and then cut the sides out at the correct angle to the deck. Glue and insert treads and once dry I sanded and cleaned it up. Painted it and installed on the deck.

Hi Rusty,

I glad to see your making some nice progress again. You might find that the pin rail between the catheads will have to be raised, virtually level with the top of the caprail, in order to clear the bowsprit. Check out Chuck's third photo in post #910. I had to do the same on mine.

Thanks for the kind words Ben.

Mike thanks for that. The offending pin rail has been removed. I didn't like it anyways!

Think I'll wait until the bowsprit is in place before putting it back.

Also thanks everyone for stopping by and all the likes!

Hi Pat, Thank you and thanks for stopping by.

Just a small update for now.

The Carronades and long guns were sitting collecting dust so I’ve started to add the breeching ropes.

One down and thankfully only 11 more to go!

While rigging the breech ropes I’ve also been working on the offending pin rail. And since I was

re-doing that I figured that I needed to make the bowsprit so I could make the proper placement.

The bowsprit was turned from 5/16” square boxwood.

IMG_2411.thumb.JPG.ec1da9ad587242407ac323bf0c0d3367.JPG

After I marked off the bowsprit in the 7/10/7 ratio and trimmed it to an octagon. I then chucked it

in the lath and slowly turned it to the desired size. Here it’s painted and ready for the 4 eye bolts.

IMG_2429.thumb.JPG.a8ceb390600c717ed9864d71c3f5166a.JPG

The bowsprit hole in the bulwarks was enlarged to accept the bowsprit and then I could determine

the correct height of the pin rail.

IMG_2428.thumb.JPG.82f0af4bec63632723cb30da0bfe0fea.JPG

So now the two long guns and pin rail are in place. Once I finish rigging the guns I’ll do the bowsprit

step and install it and the bowsprit.

Rusty I want to be just as good as you when I grow up. Only one problem my "shot clock" is ticking down! Outstanding work! You are an inspiration to all of us including the group. Anxious to see the subject in person.

Thanks Joe. Yes there is always so much to do and way too little time.

Thanks Pat, always appreciated.

I've completed the breeching ropes and installed the rest of the guns.

Also you can see the chimney has been added too.

Now I have to do the gun tackles.

You will also notice that there are numerous touch ups needed!

Thanks for stopping by.

Hi All,

Time for some updating.

I took a break from rigging the cannon and seeing that I’d made the bow sprite I figured I should put in place.

I made the bowsprit step from Chuck’s mini kit. It was of, course, a pleasure to build and went together like a dream.

IMG_2419.thumb.JPG.7623218cd8e285b1d6f3ee24f5ae9a3b.JPGIMG_2418.thumb.JPG.6c8c980d3eb4484131c36cd9004380e6.JPG

The winch on the other hand was scratch built from the plans. There were a few do over’s and the scrap bin is a bit fuller but success was finally achieved.

IMG_2414.thumb.JPG.193791256ce3bda15ef2c58292ba63e0.JPGIMG_2415.thumb.JPG.afbbd1d4c2002b451712d8ed6443ef7c.JPG

And here is it all in place.

IMG_2430.thumb.JPG.f060f2e0d04e77b871da4afd9c2a4159.JPGIMG_2431.thumb.JPG.aee0d18dad1c690cbcee80777a13f735.JPGIMG_2432.thumb.JPG.c025e87aa4d0b377f2d12e5b408fd7f9.JPG

I guess it's back to stropping blocks and finishing up the cannon rigging.

Hi All,

Still slowly rigging the cannon. I’m so glad there are only 12!

As a distraction I assembled the elm tree pumps.

Again another great mini kit from Chuck.

The laser parts were a life saver.

IMG_2416.thumb.JPG.97fbf76481078eda9f6dc9b0feaac2ac.JPGIMG_2417.thumb.JPG.da35b5d3f9e8b5960c4a55c4447d6898.JPG

I will hold off on placing until after I finish rigging the guns.

They should be safer that way.
