HMS Winchelsea by Beckmann 1/48

This is the profile I tried to come close to.20200405_205905.thumb.jpg.b9a5270fd1b4ff51c6940febf1b2dd57.jpg

I made the scraper out of an old saw blade. I used dremel and files to form it.

20200405_205939.thumb.jpg.ad771915240b7205eebc218d3bb33147.jpg

then scraping the boxwood strip. With not much force.

20200405_213953.thumb.jpg.c13bdd0e8158ce0be98184cd90686cd7.jpg

and then bending and gluing it in position

I find bending this profile really difficult. It is so small, but very resiliant when you want to bend it.20200405_214108.thumb.jpg.56a6b2c5839f0f3791765e400d3ada74.jpg

I started building the Qgalleries.

Chuck, did you somehow double up the upper fancy molding? I had to put a strip underneath it, otherwise the collums would not fit underneath the profile.

I also sanded the roof, but that does not fit properly yet.

Today I almost finished the port side Qgallery.  These photos are always so mercyless. Now I see the incorrect angles and the bent window glazing. I didn't see that in my workshop under the artificial light.  But there is still the starbord Qgallery to do it better. 20200517_165535.thumb.jpg.7a06e33e361f6b957432450c6f433576.jpg20200517_165620.thumb.jpg.ab10fda6398c2ad55d397194f4d187ff.jpg20200517_165559.thumb.jpg.0c7902e58dd847f3b9daee6a19e4d5e5.jpg

Looks good but that window glazing will get so dusty on the inside and impossible to clean.  I wouldnt add it until much much later.  No need to do it now at all.  I have also just switched to black on the top of the roof after much contemplation.  It looks better to my eye and make the fancy rail stand out much more.   See the photo below. Something to consider.

Okay thanks for the advice. I will close the Qgallery with tape from the inside, that might help against the dust. I actually just spent more than one hour searching one of the windows wich fell down when I carried the model outside, thats why I spontaniously glued them to the model. I was so happy finding it  inside the doormat.

The friezes and Fancy moldings on both sides together with the Qgallery-roofs are now finished.

After printing the friezes, I sprayed the paper 2-3 times with varnish, then cut it out and glued it to the model.

Here are some Pictures.

Now I look forward to the stern with all the wonderful carvings from Jack. That will be the absolute higlight of my so far modelbuilding.

You are welcome.  Its just as much fun to watch you guys build it.  Im actually making some progress on mine and should have an update soon as well.

I am glad that you are enjoying it.  I really wanted to create a project for a frigate that was like no other available commercially.....as far as the amount of detail and accuracy.

I was leery at first that it was too large a project to have a group like this but hopefully you guys agree it was worthwhile and fun to do.

Hello Everybody,

Chapter III is done now, the model looks so beautiful, thanks again Chuck, for this design.

I.thumb.jpg.76b66aa0dc747509e48c98aa4bd4dc75.jpg

so it is time now to do some cleaning and repairs and maybe continue rigging of a few older models. They all can't keep up with the Winni, but I still like them.

Hi Matt, thanks for your sympathy! While waiting for some parts, I started the rigging of an 1/75 Model of a frigate. The parts for the next Winchelsea arrived long time ago, but the rigging takes so much time, that I didn't yet continue with the next chapter. Here are some pictures, of where I'm stuck at the moment. 20201108_163405.thumb.jpg.5d21edcab8139e9892607cd6bc197b46.jpg

Merry Christmas to all of you.

I hope you are enjoying some time with your shipmodels. My wife got me an incredible book about the shipmodels of the musee de la marine in Paris. Looking at the great cabin of the frigate "La Flore" makes me dreaming of finally continuing my Winchelsea!!!

My rigging project made some Progress, but I am running out of blocks, so Winnie will continue soon.
