Hello from Virginia

Recommended Posts

My name is Joe Sexton.  I am a retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer who spend 22-years on submarines.  In 1992, we pulled into Ketchikan, Alaska.  The entire town welcomed us with incredible Alaskan hospitality.  This was my first introduction to sailing.  I was invited to sail with a resident on his Island Packet 38.  When the wind filled her sail and she heeled over, I was hooked.  I have always been fascinated with sailing ships and the history behind them.

Now, I am embarking on building model ships.  In my research, I was referred to this forum for information, help, and mentoring.  I am excited to start my first wooden model ship and meeting and learning from experience of its members.

Thanking you,

Joe Sexton, YNCS(SS), USN (Ret).

Welcome aboard Joe!

Greetings from STS2(SS) Guy Mengel.  I was in Navy from 1974->1980 on Fast Attack Subs (SSN 649) in pic.. and then on tiger teams.

You are way down southwest in VA.. Coal and good OT music!

I hope you enjoy the site. I have indeed.  I am working on a outer banks fishing ship (I will put a log up when I am a bit further along) is a fully POF model.. lofting frames just now..

Welcome aboard!  (PS.. most here are in the Goat locker (age wise)). It would be difficult for me to get down the ladder to the diesel room (for quiet) these days..

Best!

Guy

The Road goes ever on and on

Out from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

Let others follow it who can!

Let them a journey new begin,

But I at last with weary feet

Will turn towards the lighted inn,

My evening-rest and sleep to meet.

Thank you Guy!  The USS Sunfish (SSN-649) part of Submarine Squadron 4 in Charleston!  I was on the USS SEAHORSE (SSN-669) from 1983 - 1990.  I would go back in a heartbeat (at least the mind is willing; the body is another story)  :)  Thanks again for the greeting Shipmate!

Thank you all so much for your warm welcome, and it was my pleasure to serve.  I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!  If they come out with a geriatric submarine force, I'll be the first to join.  :)

👍😆 I feel you brother. For years I dared the Navy to let me back in. I could do that job in my sleep. Alas… all the Orions have been retired. 🥺
