hello Richard.......I finally got to finish looking through your log......simply amazing! the detail you've put into your ship is awesome....I never knew how the rudder mechanism looked........now that's 'in depth'! she's a fine looking ship and definitely a 'go to' log for anyone building her. awesome build!

yea J.........since the Clotilda was built in 1855, I'm thinking that the Bluenose windlass would be too modern. I may need to scratch build it....I'll look around though and see what I can get. the old time windlass was a locking pawl set up. when locked, the bar could be move to another hole.....manually operated. I will move it out from under the fore deck to make it more functional. I tried to find pictures of it, but so far have hit a blank. I've also been looking for a rigging plan. I have trying very hard to get caught up with all the logs I view.......it's a very daunting task when the table calls. so I have been bouncing around from computer to table. the deck planking commenced.......first filling out the starboard side. I also cut out the main mast hole then it was the port side's turn.....in the beginning, I didn't think I liked the color.....but now that it's complete, I've sort of cozied up to it. gave it a light sanding. the simulated calking was done with a Faber-Castell Pitt artist pen. the trimming wasn't too bad......I may even have enough for the second ship. I added another planking strake to her today as well. so there are three strakes on both sides......the supplied planking from the kit is very hard to work with. from what I've done of it, the sanding is going to be tough too. what can I say........it's petrified wood!

I hated to put a like to that one lou.......all I can say is that I'm glad my two are grown. yea......I'm a bit short on patients at times myself. this is new to them....I get it.........but I listen to what my older son is going through with his tribe { I think he has three in school now}....he's literally had to go to the school to pick up the homework! colleges and tech schools have been using a method they've developed for a few years now...you would think they would adopt the same method and go from there. take care of the home front and don't worry........we as well as the model will still be here

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
