best to build a mode

Beautiful work. What is the device you are using to scrape moldings?  It is impressive.

Hi Glenn,

Like most of us, I have been through several iterations of this molding thing over the years, but I have now standardised on a method similar to giampieroricci using old hacksaw blades.  However, you need to heat them to red heat first or you blunt all your tools.  I use my mill with a Dremel disc to cut them as it is precise and reproducible. Unfortunately, I can't find any good photos as I throw them away after use.  I'll search about if you are interested.

Building the deck off the model requires that the hull symmetry is perfectly to spec. Not an easy job on a plank and frame model. Wonderful work, as always!

I was lucky: the differences are minimal! 😄

Not luck... but skill.   Very well done.

Such a pleasure to see your work in progress. While I included every detail in my Swan class build as well it is a sad fact that most of your current work will not be visible on the finished model, even with partially planked decks. If I had a do-over I would seriously consider adding LED lighting in some of these areas (such as the lanterns in the light room). I know nothing of these things but it seems very doable at your scale.

It wouldn't be a difficult job and I'm thinking about it.  I have already done this in my Amarante

Beautiful work as always. Be nice to see a few photos of the lights on inside the finished La Amarante if you have some. Cheers Pete

The details are fantastic. Perhaps slightly out of scale but at these sizes its almost impossible to get this absolutely right. In many  cases if the scale was correct i don't think the pieces could be built. One of the models i submitted recently for judging,  one of the points i was heavily criticized for was as the hole size for the seine in the boat was  too small. It was the best i could find, and yes it was smaller than the real size for the  seine , but the only other option was to leave the seine out  all together. It was a fishing boat that used a seine so i am not sure what sense that would have made.
i am rambling.  Makes me wish i had done this with the Thorn.

Thanks Kevin! I follow your work very closely and try to get inspiration! It's a new type of construction for me, which I had never approached and I try to do the best I can.
The hinges are indeed a bit out of scale but functional; the alternative was to make them fake.

Every time i tried to do  something like you have done i find the only way i can make them is to simulate them. Mine are  not functional like yours . You are a master sir.  I have long thought of going to work in a jewelry shop. I did have a friend build a spot soldering machine for me but it did not work that well. I should have forked out the $600 and purchased it directly.  Keep up your fantastic internal work.
