  1. Makes me itchy ... got some Ferrari's in the waiting room ... nice car you selected
  2. (tomorrow I read the missing pages of your build) missing = remaining Stevens build is indeed another gem at MSW. You may be interested in this build log as well. I have a question concerning the wood you prepare. How do you cut the initial branch/trunc to a smaller size which can be cut into wood for model building.
  3. Got the quad 2pdr pompoms today from North Star, just the parts cut from the brass "sprue" (saw I need to cut two more to make it complete) It's a resin and brass sub build I might say. Barrels in top left corner. To all a very happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year
  4. best wishes, and a happy and healthy new year to your missus and you too
  5. Kevin, Welcome aboard Everybody has his/her value in model building. You may encounter other problems which need other solutions. Don't be shy ... start a log. It is also the way to get advice, at least, if you want to be advised ... Besides you won't get rid of that lurking status if you do not start a build log ... Will it be Katoom AKA Kevin The Lurker ... P.s. It is also a way to get to know kindred spirits at the forum
  6. I'm looking for the easy way out mate, not the painful ... unlike you I'm not a glutton for punishment
  7. No dinner with friends it seems ... though your build progresses quickly. You should keep your head with it when drilling upside down. I use a file to ream holes in styrene, I presume you would need a rather large one to establish that on those big portholes ... never the less you managed well
  8. Piet, you and Gwen have a happy and healthy 2019 too. I'll have to find me one of those shops to visit, through the internet I can't get the look and feel of it(!) thanks for the tip mate
  9. Happy New Year to you and the family, Grant. A nice challenge, looking very good .... would have loved to lay my hands on this kit, but unfortunately it is no longer available ...
  10. at least they know they'll be still alive according to your prediction
  11. Happy New Year to you, you got me another smile now you show your progress
  12. has the deck been painted gloss or satin? Indeed, strange new ways to plank a hull ... happy new year Sjors
  13. Siggi, A happy and healthy New Year to you and your family You might be interested in this gentleman's solution of caulking
  14. Kortes, I wish you a happy and healthy New Year too
  15. nope nope it's mostly brass: Photo Etch yes those are the short answers PE is not paint, as stated above it is brass, or thin sheet metal which can be photo etched, It gives sharper details because it can be made much finer than plastic, although with modern techniques, details on plastic have improved. PE has the colour of the metal it's made of, but can be painted. Remove grease with e.g. vinigar, and spray with a good adhering primer. It is advocated to use Tamiya rattlecan primer by most model builders which work with the stuff. I do not degrease, but use Tamiya. So far I have good results. Furthermore, there are brass parts like barrels for turrets and AA guns which give a far better look than the plastic from the kit.
  16. I was wondering too why you didn't use paper, but you have clearified that. The bond between the wood and the plastic will be much stronger than the one when using paper. The only thing is, I would rather use a dark grey than black on a scale model
  17. You like to keep us on our toes, don't you ... Steven, you could 'ave spotted it by the hughe tower from Yamato. It doesn't fit the bill either
  18. Glad you're back and feeling better. Plunged right into the build I can say. Like the way the rivets turned out
  19. Steven, although it is a wooden built you could use part of a sewing pin to pin or strengthen such pieces. if the wood is soft enough, you wouldn't even need to predrill
